Network doesn't work any longer

Post by softwarefailure »

For some reason I can't get network access with my X5000 any longer. This used to work fine in the past but now it doesn't seem to work at all. Trying to run a ping on Ubuntu Mate 16.04 on the X5000 just results in "connect: Network is unreachable" errors. I've connected the LAN cable to the external ethernet card in the X5000, not to the onboard LAN connector because AFAIR the onboard LAN was unsupported on Linux?

FWIW, I've tried both LAN connectors: the one of the external ethernet card and the onboard one but neither works on Linux. I can't seem to get any connection.

Anybody knows what's going on? This used to work fine in the past and I didn't change anything in the configuration, neither hardware nor software so I'm wondering why this suddenly doesn't work any more?!?!

Which kernel do you use?

4.13.12-X5000-jm

But as I said, I haven't changed anything. I haven't installed any Linux or firmware updates or anything... and it used to work in the past...

OK. Could you please test a new kernel anyway?

These work differently with the DPAA Ethernet.

Are there any instructions on how to do that? I have no experience with this. Is it possible to test the new kernel with my existing Linux installation and then go back to the old one?

Also, what about the LAN cable, where should that go? On the external ethernet card or on the onboard connector?

You can copy several kernels to the boot partition and select one for the boot.

Are your kernels installed on the microSD card or on a small FAT partition?

They're on a microSD Card. How does this work exactly (copying multiple kernels to the microSD card and then selecting one for boot)? I don't remember a thing about how I did that. It's been almost 10 years since I set up that Linux on the X5000.
