Re: AmiUpdate not autoupdating (OS 4.1 Upd6)

While you're waiting for your FE to arrive, you should make a full backup of what you have on your disk, and create a new partition to install FE on.

It cannot update an existing installation, it has to be installed on an empty partition.

So better get ready for that.

Thank you Niels!

Just in case, I have made a backup of of everything I want to keep from System and from Work partitions.

The 4.1 Final Edition CD for X1000 has just arrived.

My plan is, set up everything ‘as new’ with 4.1 FE.

This is the status of my X1000 HDD partitions. Will it be enough to simply format DH0 and install 4.1 FE on it?

AmigaOS 4.1 FE successfully installed. I just formated the DH0: partition during installation

Manually updated to Update 1 and then to Update 2

Manually updated AmiUpdate to 2.55 because it didn’t prompt to auto update.

There are 6 third party updates that don’t download from www.amiupdate.net server. They always end in red. And the comment in the log is: Target file truncated

No updates are appearing from update.amigaos.net. Is that server on maintenance? AmiUpdate is not even asking for Hyperion login credentials (it doesn’t make any change if I manually put a SiteList file with the credentials inside AmiUpdate folder). The log says: ‘Only basic authentication is supported currently

hi.

first of all you need the latest amiupdate (i guess you already have installed it): v2.55
then, most important, you need amissl v4 to be installed for using it with amiupdate.

you can grab v4 from here:
https://github.com/jens-maus/amissl/rel ... L-4.12.lha

just install it.

then amiupdate should be able to fetch the updates. also v5 of amissl.

i already created a bug/feature request for this on amiupdate.net for amissl v5 support.

Hi Michael,

Thank you very much!

Installing that amissl v4 did the trick.

Just after installing it, AmiUpdate 2.55 was able to correctly download those 6 updates.

It’s  that AmiUpdate need AmiSSL in order to be able to download AmiSSL

About update.amigaos.net, still no updates are appearing from it, despite being on a clean Update 2 install, so nearly a dozen should appear. As attached in my previous message, the log just says: ‘Only basic authentication is supported currently’

On my other system (Sam460ex)... I remember that two MUI updates appeared about two weeks ago, but they weren't able to install (maybe for the AmiSSL 4 or maybe for other reason). But today no updates appear on that system and in the log the same message appears, so maybe there's some work being done on the server this weekend?

there seems to be a problem currently with the amiupdate server. you need to wait until this is fixed and the list is back. i also see this problem.

the public amiupdate.net server is working fine. it's the amigaos.net one being broken.

The problem has now been solved in the new AmiUpdate 2.56.

Not sure exactly what caused the situation, but changes at the server created a situation AmiUpdate wasn't prepared for, as far as I understand. Rigo has now strengthened AmiUpdate to survive such situations.

So update to 2.56, and all should be well again. BTW, I had problems during my test when using the auto-update feature, so I recommend to say No to that and instead install it from the list of available updates.

With 2.56, now it connects correctly to update.amigaos.net

Thank you

Great.
emulajavi wrote: Thu Jun 26, 2025 8:51 pmSorry if this is a newbie question…. In OS 4.1 FE… are windows supposed to have any transparency? If so, how do you enable that transparency?
Check out the GUI prefs program, page "Effects". Enable "Compositing effects" and experiment with the "Window transparency" sliders.

I have mine at 0, 10, and 25%, respectively.

BTW, it would be better to create a new thread for this.

Thank you Niels. Good idea.

I’ve created another thread for the transparency. That way it would pop easier on Google and people with the same question can find it. You could also move your answer there if you like.
