GIGABYTE Radeon HD6990

Post by xeno74 »

Hi All,

I tested the GIGABYTE Radeon HD6990 with the factory default BIOS (BIOS1 - Position 2) in my X1000 and in my X5000/40 today.

X5000:

U-Boot can't detect the HD6990. I have seen via serial connection, that the U-Boot loads and the kernel boots. The kernel detects the card but can't configure it. There are a lot of DRM kernel dump messages.

X1000:

CFE works but there are some error messages about unknown x86 opcodes. The kernel boots but it can't find any disk drives (USB, SATA ..) anymore.

Result: I cannot recommend buying an HD6990. The best card for Linux PPC on our AmigaOnes is the HD6970.

Oh, it is a nice card!
It is a pitty that not works. I looked on specs: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/r ... -6990.c275
There are two cards inside, each of them only a little less powerfull than HD6970.
A1200, Micro A1-C (G3/1.2 GHz), AmigaOne XE (G4/1.4 GHz), Pegasos II (G4/1.33 GHz), Sam440ep, Sam440ep-flex, Sam460LE, AmigaOne X1000
Efika 5200b, Pegasos I, Powerbook, Mac Mini (1.83 GHz), iMac, Powermac Quad

AmigaOS, MorphOS, linux, MacOS X

Yes, you're right. It is a pitty. :-(

Hi All,

I tested the HD6990 with another U-Boot version and with a more powerful power supply unit today.

Unfortunately U-Boot doesn't work together with the HD6990 graphics card. The graphics card itself is OK and works in other PCs.

Here is my test setup:

The best card for Linux PPC in our AmigaOnes remains the HD6970. Unfortunately, two HD6970s have already broken down so I use an HD5870 in my X1000 and an HD6870 in my X5000/40 currently.

I am sorry, two cards! Terrible!
