I can confirm that 15.10 also boot on a real g5 and run stable, but without 3D.

Thanks to your procedure, I upgraded my 15.04 to 15.10 without problem.

It was very very long, around 4 hours to
-update my 15.04 to latest packages
-upgrade to 15.10
-apt-update the new 15.10.

All works except the 3D of my R7-250X of course.
