@Hans, Trevor

Just for the record: I experience some of this "glitches" as well (i.e. Dopus button corruption, PPaint errors) and my X1000 sports a Radeon HD 6570 card. With each update of the OS subsystem (i.e. new p96 libraries) or Radeon HD drivers it works better and less rendering glitches occur. I am aware of the fact that these new card drivers and all surrounding software are still in development.

@mbrantley

Thanks for that PPaint tip - nevertheless this is only workaround, it should work without "fakenative" - like my Sam or Peg do.

I'm one of them. Mine was chosen (after initially using an HD 4670 and also testing an HD 6970) because it is fanless and therefore silent. I really need this machine to become silent enough to run 24/7 before I can swicth completely to it as my main machine from the XE G4 I currently use, and that was one step on the way (the CPU fan is still the main obstacle, however).

Anyway, I don't see any of the mentioned graphical glitches, so I suppose I was lucky with mine.

Oh, and I am using it with a 30" monitor in glorious 2560×1600×32, compositing on, over a Dual Link DVI cable. Works fine.

Best regards,

Niels

Why would you change the gfx card? The RadeoHD drivers are still under development and as an A1-X000 owner you will continue to receive free updates until version 1.0 of the driver is released.

I've tested 14 RadeonHD cards from the 4xxx, 5xxx, 6xxx and 7xxx series. All appear to work OK although, for some reason the HD5450 has some minor gfx glitches. Hans is looking at this issue at the moment. For the moment I suggest you follow Severin's suggestion.

Trevor
I suppose I'm experiencing an overreaction to minor flaws in a new computer. I'll give it a while and see if there is a fix for the problem. I just don't want to wait until the other Radeon cards are obsolete and unavailable if there is no possible fix for the HD5450.

I can offer a suggestion to help with at least this problem with this program. I have had 3 or 4 different RadeonHD cards in my X1000 over the past few months and currently am running with dual cards and displays -- a 6850 and a 4350. With all of them, PPaint behaved as you describe in any "native" resolution, even though it works fine on my Sam440 computers in several screenmodes.

However, I have overcome the problem on my X1000 by running PPaint in a "fakenative" mode. I use this one: P9609:FAKENATIVE:640x480. With this mode, I have no trailing dots following the mouse pointer.
Thanks for the tip. I only use PPaint on the rare occasions when I need to use some drawing functions that aren't available in other graphics programs that I normally use. PPaint worked fine on my µA1 and SAM. It's difficult to use the tiny gadgets and text at really high resolution anyway. I thougt that we were informed at some point that PPaint would be updated for OS4.

@Hans
Thanks for the explanation. We all appreciate your hard work. If the problem can't be solved, I'll just try another graphics card.

My X1000 is quieter that my SAM Flex, despite all the additional fans. You would think that a computer with passive CPU and graphics card cooling would be quieter but the cheap power supply fan sounds like a meat grinder. I was going to replace the SAM power supply or fan but it's just a backup for my X1000 now, so I'll leave it the way it is.

I have my X1000 in the under desk computer compartment in a large desk, so it is fairly quiet. I could close the door on the compartment and make it even quieter but I'd rather have some way to monitor the inside temperature before I enclose the X1000 completely.
