I"m not sure if this is a bug, an oversight, or an intentional design feature....
I noticed on my ua1-C machine with update 3 of OS4.1 that if I have several commodities "loaded", but only a few activated, and I have the WBstartup prefs set to show icons at startup, when the workbench starts up ALL the icons for every commodity in my WBstartup list are displayed, even those commodities which are inactive.
Is this an intentional design? I had expected that only the icons for the commodities that were active would be shown at startup since those are the only ones actually activated at startup time.
Just curous....

If you look closely, you will notice that the icons for the disabled startup modules are different and the icons are drawn in their disabled state.
So yes, this is intentional.

Re: WBStartup window shows icons for all commodities
Really? I guess I must look a lot closer. Is there any way this could be made more obvious....it is very difficult to tell the difference and for some time I kept thinking that OS4 must be invoking ALL of the items even if they weren't activated. If you look closely, you will notice that the icons for the disabled startup modules are different and the icons are drawn in their disabled state.
Thanks!

I think this one has baffled me, you've waited for over a year to return to a thread you started?
I've heard of some things needing consideration and ample thought but this is simply amazing

Yeah....I'm a thoughtful sort of guy...wanted to think about it a little.....you've waited for over a year to return to a thread you started?

...actually, I just turned back on the visual WBStartup icon display on my amigaone again after having it off for a year and this little annoyance came back to my attention, and I thought...what was the resolution for that issue? Oh yeah...so I checked here and well, here I am.....

I remember asking exactly the same thing (and you giving the same answer!). So it seems that I am not the only one who can't easily tell when an icon is 'greyed out'.Rigo wrote:If you look closely, you will notice that the icons for the disabled startup modules are different and the icons are drawn in their disabled state.
I agree with the poster that this should be made a lot more obvious... If changing the colour is not an option, then perhaps the disabled icons could be grouped together (say on another line) where their slightly different colour would be more obvious.

Or just draw a big red 'X' on top of the disabled ones.ChrisH wrote:If changing the colour is not an option, then perhaps the disabled icons could be grouped together (say on another line) where their slightly different colour would be more obvious.

Or even better just do not show commodoties that are disable, after all they are NOT run so showing a disabled icon achieves nothing meaningful.

Re: WBStartup window shows icons for all commodities
I must say I'd prefer them being shown, if only they would be easily distinguished from the enabled ones.BillEaves wrote:Or even better just do not show commodoties that are disable, after all they are NOT run so showing a disabled icon achieves nothing meaningful.
There's a reason I disable a program in WBStartup prefs, and it is different from the reason for removing it altogether from the list. It's nice to be reminded that I have (temporarily) disabled something.
Best regards,
Niels

I agree with the big red X. That would make it obvious, but still show all the icons.nbache wrote:Or just draw a big red 'X' on top of the disabled ones.ChrisH wrote:If changing the colour is not an option, then perhaps the disabled icons could be grouped together (say on another line) where their slightly different colour would be more obvious.
