I've reported this a couple of times, and about the same number of times I was promised it will be fixed in the upcoming release. It never happened, sadly, so I'm taking my chance again.
When creating a new directory from the ASL file requester, the default directory name is "Rename_me", which is quite appropriate - it is meant to be renamed. Therefore, it would make good sense to automatically highlight the default name so that it can be easily deleted and renamed. Please please!

Re: ASL file requester: create new dir behaviour
Not sure what you want to see. However, when I "Open" from say Notepad and get an ASL requester, I can then click "New drawer" and I get a requester with "Rename_me" (highlighted) in the string gadget. [I tried to show you a screen grab but I can't get it to work]
Is that the behaviour that you want? Because that's what happens already with the current beta system.

@tonyw
Certainly doesn't work here with Update 4 but YES, this is exactly the behaviour I want! Re: ASL file requester: create new dir behaviour
It works properly with asl.library 53.46
Releasenotes:
asl.library 53.46 (28.7.2011)
- When trying to create a new directory, the string requester now opens with
the "Rename_Me" text already highlighted. This saves the user having to
manually delete or mark the text before entering the new name.

Ah, that explains it - Update 4 only has version 53.45. Thank you.colinw wrote:It works properly with asl.library 53.46
