Network issue - SOLVED

I cannot get the machine to go online. Both the green and amber lights are lit on the Ethernet card, and the Network Wizard cannot find a modem. Any suggestions? I tried both new and editing configs to no avail. I'm hesitant to do an OS reinstall, as I cannot seem to use the keyboard on bootup.

I hope I get this right..

Go to sys:internet and run "New Connection"
Select "Local Area Network" on the first page (The third choice), then Next
Select Automatic Configuration", then Next
You should see one adapter in the list, probably named RTL 8139. Select it and hit "Next"
Make sure "Dynamic Configuration" is checked, subnet mask should be 255.255.255.0. Hit "Next"
Hit "Finish".

If it's a "common" network, that should get you going.

Silly question, but I presume you have inserted the USB keybaod into the correct usb port on the back of the A1-X1000? If not, please refer to the Quick start guide.

I've not checked the keyboard yet as the network is the priority, but I know at the moment (as the machine is not in it's permanent location) that it's not plugged in the back.

OK, we will assume that you have some netinterfaces that are not correct for your machine.

Please type
delete sys:devs/netinterfaces/?#?
into a shell.

After that, do a clean restart, and try the previous install instructions again.

re: Keyboard issue: Try connecting the keyboard on the back, to the USB connector closest to the WHITE audio jack.
This was from SYS:Documentation/X1000_QuickStartGuide.pdf page 9

I take it that it never been online.

If that is so, then your symptoms are close enough to what happened to me.

The problem was that the network card had come partially loose in its socket despite the glue gun blob intended to hold it in place.

I would check the card after doing as lyle said.
It maybe a simple case that some of our network info is still stored in network settings.
I would also avoid using Auto setup, as in some cases it can cause problems. I find manual setup the best (aslong as you know all your network details).

I would'nt do this, as you will loose the extras I have installed during our setup.

What are you connecting to? MODEM, router, switch......?

As he says Ethernet, its going to be router / ethernet router.

There are plenty of cable modems that are connected to using ethernet... (Cable *modems* only have a single ethernet port, and the connected computer gets a WAN IP address instead of a LAN IP address. No firewall, etc.)
