The onboard ethernet (either port) is always dead when I first boot. If I unplug & re-plug the cable, it comes alive and works fine until the next time I re-boot. It works fine with a separate network card, so I have always just used that. However, this morning I decided to try again to sort this out, since I'd really like that motherboard slot back!
I tested with both MintPPC & Fienix and the behavior is the same. When I first start booting, the network port light is lit up, but near the end of booting, the light goes out (I assume that the port is being turned off?) The behavior is the same whether I use eth0 or eth1. I tried running configuration to see of that would make it come alive, but nothing seems to work other than plugging & re-plugging the ethernet cable.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any suggestions?
Thanks!

Re: Ethernet turns off while booting
Hi,
What if you set the auto negotiation off and for example force 100 or 1000mbit full duplex.
This can be done in the Ethernet configuration settings.

Re: Ethernet turns off while booting
Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately, it didn't help (100mb or 1gb). Given that we all have the same hardware (more or less), I have to assume that it has something to do with my home network. For now, I am sticking with a second nic for Linux.

Re: Ethernet turns off while booting
Well, somehow this is a bit of a blackmagic issue.
Seems that i am one of the few without any issues regarding my onboard NIC and linux.
Some need the unplug / plug trick.
