Update 3 Strange extra icon when dragged in RAM

Post by samo79 »

This is a new strange bug with the icons: If i try to drag a folder icon to the RAM disk i get a second fake icon without title, closing and reopening the RAM directory the strange extra icon will finally disapper

This bug is very easy to find and test, just open your RAM and then drag the folder you want into it

Yes, you're right. I'll write a report about it.

A couple of interesting things about this:

- The source drawer has to be in text mode for it to happen.
- The drawer you drag has to be non-empty for it to happen.
- The Ram Disk window has to be set to "Show all files" for it to happen (or maybe contain "real" icons? Haven't tried that). If you drag a drawer into RAM Disk when it is in Show only icons mode, and then switch to Show all files, the fake icon also doesn't appear.
No wonder we missed this one ;-).

Furthermore:
- The fake, nameless icon's image is always the default drawer image, even if the dragged drawer has a different icon.
- If you drag more than one drawer, only the first gets an extra icon - I guess WB can't handle two icons with a null name in the same window.
- If you try to delete the fake icon, it attempts to delete everything in RAM:, so WB must regard it as representing the "root" of the disk somehow? Or maybe it's just that adding nothing to the path "Ram Disk:" gives "Ram Disk:" (obviously).

Tony, if you like, you can add these obs to the BZ - or tell me the number, and I'll do it.

Best regards,

Niels

I can confirm everything Niels said, furthermore I can add that it just happened once while unpacking an archive to RAM:

If I manage to reproduce it I will add to the bug entry.

Not a bug of course, just some typos to fix

About the "show all files" menu, I've seen that now we can show info files separately! What's the utility of such option for end user? Hide icons?

This choice is only enabled in text mode and only when showing all files. It defaults to off, meaning that the list of files will not include .info files (i.e. file names in the list are the same as WB would show when in icon mode). If you check it, you will additionally see the .info files, similar to what you will see if you type "list sort n" in a shell.

BTW, wasn't this feature already in update 2?

It works in icon mode too here. I didn't pay attention before.

@Petrol

It was already present in update 2, maybe it was there even before. I don't remember exactly.
