Hello,
I have problem installing Lubuntu 14.10. I'm stuck at disk detection during the install process.
Following Xeno74 advices, I
1) added 3.17 kernel to my CF card (tested and booted OK under 12.04)
2) added the right initrd.gz to my CF card
downloaded from
http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/di ... /initrd.gz
3) Booted with following CFE commands
CFE> ramdisk -z -addr=0x24000000 -fatfs cf0:initrd.gz
CFE> setenv bootargs "root=/dev/ramdisk"
CFE> boot -elf -noints -fatfs cf0:vmlinux-3.17
But install process fails at disk detection (the ethernet detection step is OK)
Failing step (in french)
When I exit the install process, I can see my partitions with cat /proc/diskstats
I have only 1 disk on my x1000 with AOS and A-Eon Lubuntu 12.04 (/dev/sda4) partitions.
Thank you for your help
Guillaume

Re: Problem installing Lubuntu 14.10
Thanks a lot for your bug report. First, could you try to install Lubuntu 14.10 with the Ubuntu longterm kernel 3.13.14?
Download: kernel-3.13.14-1-x1000-ubuntu-ppc64.tar.bz2
If this doesn't work, you could try to install Lubuntu 14.04.
Initrd for Lubuntu 14.04: initrd.gz
If this works then you could update it to 14.10. And we have to create a bug report for 14.10 on launchpad.net.

Re: Problem installing Lubuntu 14.10
It's me who thanks you
1) same problem with 3.13 kernel
2) same problem with the 14.04 initrd with 3.17 kernel and with 3.13.14 kernel
Maybe it's related to my volume partition scheme ?
I have only 1 HD with all my OS4 and Linux partitions. Of course, it worked with 12.04 AEon Linux DVD.

Re: Problem installing Lubuntu 14.10
I don't have a spare HD.
For information, I just retried to boot the 12.04 DVD and restart the installation processus.
My partition scheme is still well recognized with 12.04.
Not a problem, 12.04 is enough for me.
Thank you to have take time for my problem.
Bye

Hello zzd10h,
Observe here my first report of this problem (1st comment): http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz ... t=2614 when a couple of retries made it acknowledge the HD and then on the next page you can see that when I had to install it again I had no more such luck. I have a theory it has something to do with HD space that went through only quick format because since then I tried it with 3 quick formated HDs installed and it wouldn't detect any of them not even with the 3.13.15 remix Ubuntu dvd kernel.

Re: Problem installing Lubuntu 14.10
Well, once again on 14.10
I have done extensive research which brought me to a dead end when the only viable explanation I could find was that it had something to do with dmraid and raid leftovers even though I never used raid on any of the HDs.
Eventually I gave up on this and preferred to test various initrd.gz files from several distos and eureka! it appears that something changed in Trusty 14.04 to cause this issue since the previous releases seem to work just fine. Installed 13.10 via this initrd.gz: "http://ports.ubuntu.com/dists/saucy-pro ... 4/netboot/" and then upgraded to 14.04 and then 14.10 using Xeno's guide (note: you can use the 10.1.3 mesa dri from trusty releases with your mesa fix as you don't need to go all the way to precise 12.04). Now if I can just get my audio back all will be wonderful.
