JXFS causes GR message for ScummVM 1.7.0 (SOLVED!)

Post by HKvalhe »

I have updated and installed the latest ScummVM 1.7.0. However, it seems that this new versions doesn't like the JXFS file system and causes a GR message almost every time ScummVM 1.7.0 is running.

The author says that JXFS has problem to access the I/O stuffs that JXFS can't handle. This leaves me to ask if my game partition should be partitioned to use SFS2 instead of JXFS, unless the author of JXFS can fix the problem, then it would be good.

Use the SFS2 filesystem instead of JXFS.

Ok, i will do that and change the game partition to use SFS2 instead. Thanks, mate :)

I forgot to mention that the ScummVM is in my Diverse partition under the drawer Emulators, and the games are on the Games drawer. Diverse is now formatted as SFS2, but Games is still JXFS.

Should the Games partition also be re-formatted to SFS2?

UPDATE with SOLVED solution: Ok, i did the following. I have re-formatted both the Diverse and the Games partition to use the SFS2 file system instead of JXFS, so NO MORE GRs from ScummVM!

My partitions from the onboard 500GB Samsung SSD harddrive are like this: AmigaOS SYS partition - SFS2 bootable, Work - JXFS non-bootable, Diverse - SFS2 non-bootable and Spill (Norwegian name for Games) - SFS2 non-bootable. My external 1TB USB 3 harddrive have these partitions all formatted as JXFS: Work2 - JXFS, Backup - JXFS, Media - JXFS and Games - JXFS.

Problem solved! Thanks! Just one question. Should Work be formatted to SFS2 as well, or keep sticking with JXFS? :)

My personal opinion, JXFS causes loads of issues. I found this out when setting up X1000's. Someone wanted JXFS and it would cause crashes and errors all the time.
SFS/02 has never caused any issues at all. Its nice and fast and I have never had one issue.
Its abit like a classic system, I found that using PFS3 would crash / stop alot of things running. Switch to SFS/02 and it is right with the world.

@Christopher Follett

I get your point :) Well, the only partition on my internal harddrive using JXFS is the Work partition. The 3 others are now using SFS2, while the SYS partition of course is SFS2 bootable.

Only my external 1TB USB 3 harddrive with 4 partitions are all using JXFS. I'm aware that SFS2 is best for keeping compatibility with older software at best possible speed. JXFS is better suited for new software. Most of them you see suited for different type of work.

That is at least my own experience now :) Now it works better :) Thanks, to all of you :)

Really where? I know it causes issues with Hollywood.

I never heard of JXFS before I started using OS4.1. From what I read on it in the past, its a Camera FS.
Never ever had one issue with SFS/02. Even on multible terrabyte drives.

I have changed this to use SFS2 only for the internal harddrive. At some times, ScummVM still causes some minor GRs, even using SFS2. Most curious. It shouldn't be the case now that using SFS2.

JXFS is a new 64-bit file system using a new DOS API. It's believed to be a bit faster than SFS2, but can't really tell if it makes a difference. The problem with JXFS is compatibility with most original Amiga softwares and games.

But all of my 4 partitions on the internal SSD HDD are now SFS2, with Buffers set to 2000 and Max Transfer is of course 7FFFFFFF :)
