I did move CrossDOSFilesystem to KS to test, but its not that way in FE, so not going to leave it that way. I do seem to have the cf card working right, but no luck booting the HD install or the live dvd with the new kernel. Only option left is to put the working card back to verify it still works, but not going to toss the r9 270 for linux.nbache wrote:You need CrossDOSFilesystem in Kickstart/Kicklayout for that, IIRC.sundown wrote:If I amiga format the card, it shows on the WB, if I FAT format on a PC, it doesn't show.

I tried to boot the dvd from cfe with the 3 lines, it did start to load, but stopped at the "returning from prom_init" line & then the monitor started its sleep mode on & off. I may install my 4850 card tomorrow, just to verify it is my new card.xeno74 wrote:There is a new kernel available with 7850 <-> R9 270 (Pitcrain) 2D support for our A-EON Live Remix DVD.
kernel-3.13.16-1-x1000-ubuntu-ppc64.tar.bz2
You can boot the new kernel 3.13.16 from the CF card with your Live Remix DVD with these following commands:
CFE> ramdisk -addr=0x24000000 -fs=iso atapi0.1:casper/powerpc64/initrd
CFE> setenv bootargs "root=/dev/ramdisk file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper quiet ro splash --"
CFE> boot -elf -noints -fatfs cf0:vmlinux-3.13.16
Same here, when i use CrossDosFilesystem together with cfide.device.kmod, i can format the cf card and use it on my WB but then doesn`t boot with linux kernel.sundown wrote:I did move CrossDOSFilesystem to KS to test, but its not that way in FE, so not going to leave it that way. Thanks a lot for testing. You have a Linux distribution installed on your AMIGA one X1000, don't you? Please test the Radeon R9 270 with these following kernels:sundown wrote:I tried to boot the dvd from cfe with the 3 lines, it did start to load, but stopped at the "returning from prom_init" line & then the monitor started its sleep mode on & off. I wouldn't be too worried about having CrossDOSFilesystem in Kickstart, if it gives you something useful. I have that both in my Final (currently based on a late RC, as I only received the "real" release Yesterday) and my beta install, and we did test it that way, at least some of us. No guarantees, though (obviouslysundown wrote:I did move CrossDOSFilesystem to KS to test, but its not that way in FE, so not going to leave it that way. Both the 3.18.0 & the 3.17.2 kernels boot my install just fine, thanks. Thanks a lot for testing. You have a Linux distribution installed on your AMIGA one X1000, don't you? Please test the Radeon R9 270 with these following kernels:
vmlinux-3.18.0-KVM-PR-OVERLAYFS-AMIGA_one_X1000.tar.bz2
vmlinux-3.17.2_KVM-PR-FTRACE-AmigaOneX1000.tar.bz2
linux-3.15.6_AmigaOne_X1000.tar.bz2
I FAT formatted my CF card on a PC & copied the kernel to it, thats working for me right now.nbache wrote:I wouldn't be too worried about having CrossDOSFilesystem in Kickstart, if it gives you something useful. But as for booting Linux, it does seem to do it here (although you have to be patient, it sits still for almost a minute and a half on the CFE backdrop after selecting the Linux boot from the CFE menu before starting the boot). I don't remember how my card was formatted, but I *think* it was from AmigaOS. Note, however, that my Linux installation on the X1000 is pretty old, it's a Debian Squeeze with the newest kernel dating back from Sep 2012. And I can't really be sure it boots correctly, since I upgraded my graphics card at least once since then, now to a Radeon HD 6670 which is probably not supported by that old kernel/Linux. At least all I see when it boots is a screenful of thin vertical colored lines.
As you can tell, I don't really use my Linux installation on the X1000 a lot.
I'd have to put my old graphics card back in and make a newer installation with a Linux and a kernel which supports my new card, I guess, but that won't be in the near future. I do have the Live DVD, I should probably check if that supports my HD 6670, but I don't want Ubuntu.
Best regards,
Niels
Almost, 3.18 & 3.17.2 booted linux very fast, 3.10.15 was slow to boot. I forgot to mention that I tried 3.13.16 again as well, but it never booted linux. I cannot boot into the linux dvd options, true, just a guess that the 270 take a little longer to init & it times out, maybe Hans would know.xeno74 wrote:Hi Sundown,
Thank you for these exciting information. OK, the kernel 3.18 and 3.17.2 boot with your Radeon R9 270. But both have a slower boot than with the Radeon HD 4870. And booting of the kernel 3.10.15 is slower than with the other kernels above. And you can't boot the A-EON Live Remix DVD with your Radeon R9 270 because of the slow init issue. Did I understand it correctly?
Many thanks,
