1. Mint already installed
2. xcompmgr installs OK
3. Opening a regular terminal and typing SU to enter root then typing> gedit /etc/xdg/lxsession/Mint-LXDE/autostart fails to open the file for edit. However if i open a root terminal I am able to gedit the file and save the changes.

Questions.

When adding @xcompmgr -n to autostart do you have to deactivate any other lines.
Which desktop should I select to start (Mint LXFE, Gnome, etc?)

I would still like to try the Compix effect in MintPPC11 if possible.

Thanks

Trevor
I had to add the oneliner to get it working, no further changes were necessary.

This tutorial covers LXDE, so give LXDE a try please.
In XFCE or Gnome there should be a gui tool (admin tools) to activate compositing.
In XFCE it is called something like "Window Manager Tweaks" in the settings section.

Installing Compiz on Wheezy:

First downloaded the dvd iso of Debian wheezy testing of the official website :

http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/weekl ... c/iso-dvd/

Install it the same way as shown in debian squeeze guide, then copy the specific modules of X1000 (2.6.39.4X1000) to the / etc / lib.

Now edit the files mentioned by PatW: http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz ... 3&start=60 .

Reboot your X1000 And see the Debian Desktop Wheezy

Go to Applications> System Tools> Add / Remove Software, and type compiz in the search field and hit return, select all components of Compiz and click Apply to install them.

Then go to Applications> System Tools> Preferences> Compiz setings, and choose compatibility with Gnome , choose the effects you want.

Open a terminal and enter the following command:

Compiz --replace

and this will already be operating the effects of Compiz If you want to activate Compiz at the start, then go to Applications> System Tools> Preferences> Applications at the beginning, and adds a new, put a name: Compiz, add the command: compiz --replace, and agree now to start is always activated Compiz effects.

Now enjoy the effects of Compiz.

Many thanks for posting that. I have Debian Wheezy installed but mainly use Squeeze or MintPPC, when I' not using AmigaOS 4 that is :-)

As "thawk posted Compiz appears to have been removed from the more recent isos.I will give it a try and post the results.

@Fernecho
What version of compiz are you using? Is this 0.8.4-52 or 0.9.2.1?

The version I use is 0.8.4.5-2, you can download from the website of debian. Here are all the repositories you need to install compiz on Debian.

http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/c/

Works perfectly.

And works in gnome also now .
but it works after "compiz --replace" is added to startup programs
It did not work for me when I used the command in a terminal.
