7.2 works, only no network
( I have still PCI RTL card on my X1000, but cable is connected to motherboard PA-Semi NIC)

My X1000 doesn't have this issue. The alpha7 boots up, restarts and shuts down. The P.A. Semi onboard ethernet works.

But ... Pulseaudio can't enable sound devices anymore on Void PPC. The output via ALSA works. Tested with the onboard HDA ATI SB sound device, Soundblaster LIVE Player 1024 PCI card, AMD HDMI audio and with USB audio. Strangely enough Pulseaudio can enable the sound devices on MintPPC32. I think the latest sound updates are responsible for the issue on Void PPC.

From your log:

Code: Select all

pasemi_mac 0000:00:14.3: PHY init failed: -19.
pasemi_mac 0000:00:14.3: Defaulting to 1Gbit full duplex
PHY init failed. I don’t know why. It works on my X1000. Have you overclocked your X1000?

P.S. Mirari I will test later - now rebuilding it from testbed to new case and make new installations of OSes...
But the P.A. Semi onboard ethernet works with the alpha6 of kernel 7.2 on your X1000. Could you please test the alpha6 again?

@All

Does sound work with the alpha7 of kernel 7.4 on your machines (X1000, X5000 and Mirari)?

Yes, I am runnig 2 GHz all time. It can be connected with it, but kernel v6.x has no problems with 2GHz.

Tested again 7.2-alpha 6 with PA-Semi NIC connected:
Image
Link is down. If you need, I have saved log and dmesg.

Tested again 7.2-alpha 6, but hese time with PCI RTL NIC connected:

It worked OOTB.

So there are probably some problem with PA-Sami NIC. I will try on weekend to remove RTL, if something changes.

Could you also please test the stable long-term kernel 6.12.112? Does the P.A. Semi onboard ethernet work with the stable long-term kernel 6.12.112?

Sailor,

Please post the dmesg of your test with the kernel 6.12.112 here or via email.

Thanks for your help,

I had an issue with the 7.4 alpha 3. Mine would not boot up on my X1000 and I got an error similar to what sailorMM had. It just booted to a kernel panic. In any case I'll move along since that's an "old" alpha now. :-)

Re: New kernels

Normally I run my X1000 on 2 GHz. Now I tested kernels 6.12.112 and 7.4.alpha7 again on frequency 1.8 GHz:

PA-Semi NIC worked with 6.12.112 and nor works with 7.4.alpha7. But at least no crash.
It is a little strange behaviour.
