Very interesting! What it said was as follows (I tried a screen shot but it crashed Adelie):

adelie-live /home/live # last | head
reboot system boot adelie-live Thu Feb 6 1:6:41 still running
reboot system boot 6.14.0-powerpc64 Fri Mar 15 18:20 still running
reboot system boot adelie-live Mon Mar 2 03:47 - 03:57 (00:10)
reboot system boot 6.14.0-powerpc64 Fri May 2 14:49 - 03:57 (-69822+98:51)
live pts/2 :0 Fri Jan 24 16:32 - 16:32 (00:00)
live pts/1 :0 Fri Jan 24 15:38 - 16:49 (01:11)
live pts/0 :0 Fri Jan 24 15:37 - 16:49 (01:11)
reboot system boot adelie-live Fri Jan 24 15:34 -03:57 (49709+12:53)
reboot system boot 6.14.0-powerpc64 Sun Feb 18 14:59 - 03:57 (29596+12:58)
reboot system boot adelie-live Fri Jan 24 15:18 -03:57 (49709+12:38)

What in the world did it think was going on, and when?

I still can't figure out where the display manager (graphical login) is. Maybe too old to use a computer.

After booting, you must select a user and enter a password on the display manager.

I see no way to select a user. It comes up with "Live" over an empty thing that looks like a place to put a password. What I have been doing is just pressing Enter and Adelie comes up with a mid-screen requester to connect with some kind of on-line thing. I don't know what those things in the list are, but I doubt that they are really available to me, so I close the requester and get on with Adelie. Sometimes I have typed "Amigaone" into that empty box under "live," but everything has remained the same.

A few days ago I did something that involved the word "Mate." I have not been able to boot Adelie since then. I do get some kine of useful screen, with something special to do--"KPgk" or something (my memory doesn't work anymore). I am able to run Arctic Fox from this screen, as I am doing now (I hope this will post!). I made a screen dump but as is often the case with Attachments, it only allows me to delete it, no reason given.

I'm finding all kinds of fascinating stuff on this screen, but have to leave now. More later.

For two or three days now, when I "run adelie," the familiar screen comes up. It has a small area that says "live" and a password requester. I hit Enter and soon have a new screen, blue at the top gradually becoming green at the bottom.

In the upper right corner, first, a faded loudspeaker. Clicking on it gets a volume control. Then a pair of rectangles, side by side. The left-hand one is blue, dark at bottom, the other one is gray. Clicking on either opens a small window with "Keyboard (10.0%)," "Preferences" and "About [Power Manager]." Then the date and time.

Upper left, nine dots in a square, "Applications Places System." "Places" lists things like "Home Folder, Desktop, FIENIX6, void," etc., but clicking on any gets "Could not open location 'file:///run/media/live/...'" "No application is registered as handling this file."

"Applications" contains a lot of useful things, including fortunately "Interenet" > "Arctic Fox." I may have succeeded in making some changes under "System" which I am going to reboot now to check on.

Here is what my Adelie system monitor looks like currently.

This is what the screen looks like:

There is no way to turn the computer off except to hold down the power button a few seconds!

Great, that it works on your X5000. You can turn the X5000 off with the command "shutdown -h now" as root.

I'm lost again. "Display manager"? "Graphical login"? Edit: I see now that we've been through all this before. I can't remember anything anymore!

With my current Adelie I get a green screen which shows my Desktop items plus "Computer," "live's Home," "Trash," and three Removable Media. Along the left screen top margin: Applications Places System. Clicking on those brings up all kinds of interesting and mysterious stuff, but no display manager or graphical login. Applications > Other and System both have "About Mate." Clicking on that in Other opens a big window which immediately closes. Clicking the one in System gets a little window that tells "about Mate."
