Works very well for me thanks Christian.
Video output set to "OPENGL GLX video output (XCB)" .
Had to run from terminal first before the video would though display .
Best settings for Me with pciex1 ATI FirePr0 2260 :
Video : XVideo output (XCB)
Input/Codecs : VA-API video decode vi DRM

Video output set to X11 video output (XCB) (but still not possible to run full screen fluid due to no graphic hardware acceleration)
Fantastic work Christian
Thank you! BTW, I use the 'VA-API video decoder via DRM' for hardware-accelerated decoding on my X5000 and X1000. It works with my Radeon HD4870 (X5000) and with my Radeon HD6870 (X1000).
I installed this new VLC to my Ubuntu 16.04... After installation there was an error message.
Errors were encountered while processing:
vlc-plugin-fluidsynth
Is that serious...? VLC seems to start normally, but when I open MP4 videos, there does not appear anything on the screen, it stays black (or with some videos just a violet or turquoise screen) but the time count and time bar seem to advance normally, and the sound is also working. The videos themselves are ok as they work with mpv Media Player without problems. My graphics card is a HD 5450 which should not be an issue to any software.
How to fix this problem? (Unfortunately the data quota of my internet account is now very low so cannot download videos in other formats to test).
Please try out some video output options (Menu Tools - Preferences - Video). I currently use the OpenGL video output There are some other video output options. Please try them. Additionally I use 'Accelerated video output (Overlay)'.
As input codec I use the 'VA-API video decoder via DRM' for hardware-accelerated decoding on my X5000 and X1000 (Menu Tools - Preferences - Input / Codecs). It works with my Radeon HD4870 (X5000) and with my Radeon HD6870 (X1000).
