4.1FE BugReport: Weird auto detected screen mode

Post by Olrick »

Hardware:
X1000 2Gb RAM
Radeon HD6950 (MSI R6950 twin Frozer II)
Screen: Hyundai W220D (1680x1050)

OS:
Clean OS4.1FinalEdition
RadeonHD.chip 2.4

Symptom:
AutoDetect mode being chosen in ScreenMode, a strange resolution is displayed: Board 0:1920x540 (CLUT8/RGB16/ARGB32)
OS4.1U6 does not display this resolution.
The screen does not display it properly.

Don't hesitate to ask me more information.

From what I read at places like http://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-lcd-f ... ution.html it's some sort of interlace screenmode. I'm guessing that your monitor can handle the mode since it was retrieved from the monitor in auto mode but the graphics card or driver doesn't understand how to send it. Personally, I have a monitor file that just lists the modes I can use which are then the ones appearing in Screenmode prefs.

Wise comment.
I've been looking for supported resolutions and the Hyundai w220D accepts upto 1680x1050 through VGA or DVI connectors, and video resolutions upto 1080i/p through HDMI connector.

What's surprising is:
- 4.1U6 doesn't display this mode, why ?
- 1920x540 is really displayed as such (with downscale artefacts), and not as 1920x1080 interlaced. Is there a way to get it displayed as 1080i ?

I had read your posts already, and effectively, the problems are similar in the sense that ScreenMode Prefs displays resolutions which can't be used.
