Looks like issues with the 3.17 kernel. There should not be any extra arguments needed .
Guess I am going to have to shelf the Sam460ex 3.17 kernel until I can run some tests myself.

This one fails here too, black screen on RadeonHD output.

kernel 3.16.2 no problems.

Do I need some extra options/arguments in menu.lst (kernel blah blah extra_option=on blah blah)?

It is possible that the Radeon HD77xx is causing the problem during the installation.
I have only tested the installers with cards up to Radeon HD6670.
However you might want to download the iso and burn it using another machine in case there is an issue with your Sam460ex's DVD drive.
daver wrote:Hi
this time i made partitions using "use largest contiguous free space option"
and the sam460ex_install .sh script worked just fine this time, however the installer failed in the select and install software part and
after installing parthenope (i tried both version 0.93 and 0.91)
i dont get eighter the amigaos or the linux boot option.
when i istall slb_v2 i get the amigaos back and it boots perfectly.
seems like im the only one having trouble installing linux on my sam460.
i have a radeon hd77xx could that have something to do with the fails ?

I would not expect your motherboard to be the problem.
Did you try downloading and burning the installer iso on a different computer ?
Also what is the location of the lubuntu Mirror option given for the install ?
I get a UK based mirror . This is another possible issue if it selects a mirror that is not available or does not have the software.
you could try the Debian Jessie installer that allows you to select a mirror near you .

okey.
i burned the installer iso on my pc with imgburn and i also get a UKbased mirror.
i have also tried the Debian Jessie installer with a mirror really close to me with same result.
could it be a problem with my sii card ? its the one with 2 sata ports not 4.
is it possible to make a usb boot stick so i can install via usb and the onboard sata2 port ?

Seems that something unusual is going on . Make sure you are selecting the right Ethernet port.
Could you try the Lubuntu iso and just do a base installation.
That is do not select any software to install at the select software option.
This should install a text based system if it works.
if successful then you can install the gui stuff from the terminal using the following

sudo apt-get install lubuntu-desktop

It is possible that there will be no display to a Radeon HD 7XXX card.
Try booting this installation using the Radeon HD4650 or re install the base system again using the Radeon HD4650 and see if you get a terminal display.

now i have tried the hd4650 card and it was same as the hd7750.
it says "console=ttyS0,115200 console=tty0" after image and root on.
i dont think it has anything to do with the graphic card, its eighter the sII card or the pci port or ram port thats failing.
my sam460 has behaved unusual since i got it but everyone keep telling me its os4 that is crap or the programs im using so therefor im trying to install linux on it to prove its
the hardware not the software thats failing.

Do not change the menu.lst file.
The "console=ttyS0,115200 console=tty0" is the correct boot argument.
It sends output to the serial port until the graphics card is set up.
Once the graphics card is set up you are supposed to get the display on your monitor.
