The GUI-Prefs string gadgets don't keep the changes when edited, maybe someone wants to try this, and get's the
same results:
10 open GUI-Prefs
20 Go to "Gadgets"
30 Change the "Background texture" String-Field to some other existing Path by editing the string gadget as follows,
but first:
31 open NotePad, type in "AmiBoingBlueAccent"
32 double-click on it and select copy
33 go back to GUI-Prefs
So let's say, the Path for "Background texture" looks like this: Sys:Prefs/Presets/Default/Common/Patterns/smallerw.png
40 Double click on "Default" then click the RMB and PASTE:
--- Sys:Prefs/Presets/Default/Common/Patterns/smallerw.png
changes to
--- Sys:Prefs/Presets/AmiBoingBlueAccent/Common/Patterns/smallerw.png
50 Press "Enter" to confirm the Reaction-string-gadget/Text-Field-Gadget(?)
60 goto "Styles"
70 Same as above, edit the "Bitmap set" Path by editing the text field
80 double click on "Default"
90 RMB and PASTE. it should have changed from e.g. this
--- Sys:Prefs/Presets/Default/lightGray/Bitmaps/
to this
--- Sys:Prefs/Presets/AmiBoingBlueAccent/lightGray/Bitmaps/
100 go back to "Gadgets"
-> the "Background texture" path was not changed and is back to "Default"
120 go to "Styles"
-> Here too the text is back to the last saved setting.
Further, if you try the above again and click on the "Open ASL Requester button" right after (40 and 90) "RMB and PASTE" the change will be kept, but oddly the ASL-Requester closes without error even if entering the name of a non existing file.
WBPattern Prefs does not "behave" like this, the string gadgets work properly when pasting something and the ASL-Requester complains if a wrong name is typed in the File field and closed by clicking "OK" (and maybe ideally IMHO the string-gadget too should complain but keep the change if a faulty path is entered; let's say you want to change the GUI-Prefs first and then afterwards copy a Picture-file to the backgrounds folder).
