Font Compatibility

Post by djrikki »

Hello, I realise this isn't top priority, but nevertheless a good place to record this error. Decided to copy some fonts across from my mac so MUI-OWB can take advantage of them.

Got the following error from TypeManager:

Error 12, can't build Space/Width for font file:
'Shared:Lake Marketing and Events/Graphics/Fonts/Kailasa.ttf'.

AND ..Kokonor.ttf

Apparently both of which are standard default fonts that come with Mac OS X Mountain Lion. Identified in Finder as 'Windows TrueType font'.

79 other fonts installed perfectly fine, just these two.

I have done the same thing, copied all TTF from my previous Windoze machine and convert them under AmigaOS, without the slightest problem. Probably those two aforementioned fonts are 'buggy'?

Also on the topic of font capability, I wondered what the reasoning is behind bog-standard fonts like Arial not being found in the OS. Is it a licensing issue?

Also an observation, I am currently designing a website for a client, my Wordpress theme is set to use a 'Google Font' which shows correctly in Chrome, but uses another font in Timberwolf and OWB.

Typefaces are copyrighted software. Patents may also be involved depending on the country. Additionally, font names may be trademarked. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intellectu ... _typefaces

As ssolie says, Arial is a copyrighted font. Microsoft allow their original archive to be freely distributed, however that is a self-extracting Windows executable.

The "google font" is a @font-face defined downloadable font. I would guess that Timberwolf and OWB don't support that CSS property.
