Oops, I'm asking for a lot of questions (and you are all kind to reply to me) and I didn't introduced myself before.
I'm impolite, sorry...

So, I came back to AmigaOS around a year ago (after a long gap from a Amiga500 in my youth) with a Pegasos 2.
Since, with the Pegasos 2 and now with X1000, Amiga is my main computer. All my computing needs are satisfied by my new X1000.
Web, mail, programation, games and video watching, all is nice and above all more fun than on mainstream OS.
I rarely need to open my iMac, except to use Skype.

I realize, that I'm in the same situation than Phantom (except that, me, I'm a simple AmigaFuture reader),
I wanted too to upgrade my Pegasos (who is already a great computer) and the X1000 make the job very well.
More stable, quieter in my case, and above all faster !
And when all the drivers and features will be implemented, X1000 will be a real bomb !

Happy to be here, and thank to all to have kept the Amiga alive during all these years.
And thank to A-Eon and Hyperion to contribute bravely to his development.

I am also a brand new AmigaOne X1000 owner. I have to say that I really like the computer in the little time I've had it. Build quality is great, and it performs very very well. Very happy I was able to buy one. My last Amiga was a 3000, but I've owned everything Amiga-wise except for the 500 and 600.

I'm currently a CIO at a non-profit, and former long term CIO at a University in Florida. Now, while in IT "CIO" means Chief Information officer, it may also mean "Career is Over" :) And that's indicative of my skillset: I'm not a programmer, but a user. I've done quite a bit of beta-testing for Amiga software in the past (Skyline (Atredes) BBS, Gridiron!, Microfiche Filer and Excellence!) and would be happy to help beta test any code being written for the X1000 today.

Thanks for keeping the party going!

I can also finally join you happy X1000 owners! I got mine this tuesday and have installed the most necessary stuff, with my XE networked for the things I find I miss. It is a true joy to be presented with a fresh clean installation -- I've managed to pile up a great deal of stuff during the last decade on my XE, so a fresh start is nice. Not quite the same feeling as with my first 1200, but pretty darn close.

And, I made a highly unscientific benchmark, by cleaning and compiling jamiga. And the result compared to my XE are indeed nice:

Code: Select all

Clean all
A1 XE: 0:02.8
A1 X1: 0:01.4
Make all
A1 XE: 2:06.8
A1 X1: 0:28.6
What you see is the time to clean, and then make all. Time measured using a stop watch, so far from exact, but sufficient for me. :D

Hi X1000 community,

My name is Xeno and I bought a X1000, too. At the beginn I have a lot of troubles with the X1000 in connection with an ATEN KVM Switch. These problems were resolved. I have installed Debian Wheezy with kernel 3.5.7 on the X1000. Other Linux distributions doesn't work because I have an AMD Radeon HD 6870 in the X1000.

Anyway, I'm from Munich in Germany. I'm 39 years old and I work for an IT company. My profession is IT technician.

Best wishes,

Xeno
