Wrong default block size for partitions

Post by Deniil »

I have just started to install and partition my new and shiny X1000 with update 5 and found a bug.

The partion maker (forgot its name) default the block size to 1024 which is not supported for JXFS and not recommended for SFS. This is a bug. FFS benefits from a larger block size but FFS is deprecated and using 512 block size with FFS is harmless. Therefore the partitioner should default to 512 and not 1024.

I noticed this when making new partitons, some SFS and some JXFS. I noticed (a bit too late) that the JXFS partition was not present so I looked at the partition and noticed 1024 byte block size. I changed it to 512. But I also noticed that all SFS partitions also used 1024 so I had to change them as well. Unfortunately I had already copied a lot of data onto those.

The partition maker should default to sensible values (like SFS\2 or JXFS and 512 byte blocks), not historic relics like OFS and 1024 byte blocks. How are poor newbies going to get this right otherwise? I'm a power user and didn't get it right.
