I am running AmigaOS 4.1 Update 5 on my AmigaOne 500 (SAM460ex). I was doing a clean install of Jack, and tried firstly with Norwegian (Nynorsk). The archive was stored and unpacked to RAM,
and installed into my SYS:Utilities from RAM. Despite the program been installed correctly, during the installation, a script showed up saying it couldn't find Image2Icon and OpenURL. The problem is that
in the latest AmigaOS 4.1, OpenURL is named URL in Prefs as default. The prefs is URL, but the file used for it is of course OpenURL. That's weird for Jack claiming it could not find these files, but installed correctly anyway.
Now to the main problem. I have tried as said firstly having Jack to use Norwegian (Nynorsk). It could be working fine for a couple of days, but after that, Jack's buttons stopped working and had to be controlled with the F-keys instead. Even tried to completely remove Jack from SYS and install it over again, instead using Enligsh language, but the result appeared to be the same. Also tried installing it by just using English language, but that didn't change anything.
I found a link with another user who have experienced the same problem.
http://www.amigans.net/modules/xforum/v ... &move=next
It's possible that this problem is related to the Hollywood concept used to create this product. It's most unfortunate, as Jack seems to be a really great program. I hope a solution will be worked on this problem.

URL is NOT a renamed OpenURL!
URL is a part of the new launch-handler, see SYS:Documentation if you need to know more.

Re: Jack - Buttons won't work (SOLVED!)
It's easy to be wrong, but despite what the documentation says, it doesn't say how to solve the problem with Jack's buttons. There are others who have experienced this problem as well. Would be grateful if there is a solution to this problem that will help both me an others experiencing the same problem. It's not a normal behaviour for a program to be working fine for a couple of days after a "first, new installation", then the buttons freeze to death, and even a new installation won't solve it. This is most likely a Hollywood-related problem in Jack.ZeroG wrote:URL is NOT a renamed OpenURL!

Re: Jack - Buttons won't work
This is not an OS4 issue so you should contact the Jack author instead, by the way it might be an programming bug aswell, not necessary an Hollywood fault .. as far as i remember there were a lot of problems with Jack but the button issue was solved long ago .. almost they are ok here ..
Just a though: it might be also an issue with the Norwegian language, did you try to use Jack in english only ?

Re: Jack - Buttons won't work (SOLVED!)
You're right. It's not related to the OS. I tried use Jack in English, but the problem appeared to be the same. As you say, could be a bug in Jack itself yes.samo79 wrote:This is not an OS4 issue so you should contact the Jack author instead, by the way it might be an programming bug aswell, not necessary an Hollywood fault .. as far as i remember there were a lot of problems with Jack but the button issue was solved long ago .. almost they are ok here ..

Thank you for letting me know. I will keep trying. What you mean to say is that there is an issue with the Norwegian language in Jack, right? I use Norwegian Bokmål AND English in my entire AmigaOS,
but i assume you mean for Jack, i have to choose english?
After answering this, this thread could be erased, if that seems necessary, since this is not an OS problem at all. I must try focusing on OS related problems here, nothing else.
By the way, i tried to change the language settings in Prefs:Locale in the Country section. I had it to show Bokmål Norwegian firstly, then English. I switched now so that English and THEN Bokmål Norwegian are shown in that order. My location is still set to Norway, same with the timezone there. Is this correct now?
EDIT: Yeah, changing the priority of using English language and the Norwegian as second in Prefs:Locate solved the problem with Jack, also letting Jack use English only. Thank you!

Re: Jack - Buttons won't work (SOLVED!)
Of course I mean in Jack not in AmigaOS, if i remember correctly Hollywood programs does not use the internal locale system at all, it's an "independent system" created by the Jack's author, infact you can choose any type of language when you start Jack (for the first time) and at the same time you can still with your preferred language for the OSThank you for letting me know. I will keep trying. What you mean to say is that there is an issue with the Norwegian language in Jack, right? I use Norwegian Bokmål AND English in my entire AmigaOS,

I ask you about that because some time ago i got many problems using Jack in italian, one of this problem caused an issue with the buttons
Re: Jack - Buttons won't work (SOLVED!)
Well, i solved the situation by just using standard english in the Prefs:Locate, and for Jack as well, so this surely had a positive effect on Jack.samo79 wrote:Of course I mean in Jack not in AmigaOS, if i remember correctly Hollywood programs does not use the internal locale system at all, it's an "independent system" created by the Jack's author, infact you can choose any type of language when you start Jack (for the first time) and at the same time you can still with your preferred language for the OSThank you for letting me know. I'm happy to know i wasn't the only one with this problem, as i know understand the problem was inside Jack as well. At least it's solved now.

Re: Jack - Buttons won't work (SOLVED!)
Hi,
Yeah its nothing to do with AmigaOS, however Hollywood does have some (limited) support for Locale added in a recent update it doesn't allow me to recall any catalog information which Jack needs to be able to correctly display the days of the week - I need a better algorithm to create the calendar tbh. Concerning the WBStartup problem and Weather Display problem ( you mentioned elsewhere ), Andreas' thinking is that the TCP/IP stack is 'making itself known too early' or 'in the midst of being set-up' when the Hollywood app is running which could result in unexpected behaviour - maybe something introduced by Update 5. However, possible remedy below.
Question to more knowledgeable AmigaOS users: When items are run through WBStartup are the Tooltypes acknowledged? If the answer is Yes - trying changing the DELAY tooltype Helgis.

And some Hollywood features might be missing from Update 5 that were part of Update 4. Not that this is a problem for me now, but i am aware of these things. At least it helps to know the sources to the problems that are still present in Jack. These are minor problems, but still present. But for now it works nicely at least. But for the delay, you suggest setting it to 7 instead of 3?
