PCI Radeon 9000Pro are really hard to find. I'musing an AGP one in my AmigaOne XE.

The Pegasos II has also an AGP port so you can gor for an AGP Radeon 9000 Pro.

Check http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trksid= ... o&_sacat=0

Select only 128MB ones.

Does that mean that it is not "Officially" supported, but it might work, or does that mean that the Radeon 8500 is not supported at all and the display will be distorted, scrambled, or have no display at all?
It means there's no official support. It could do any of the above or it might even release the magic blue smoke.

*Unofficially*, I may soon be getting hold of an 8500. After which, we'll see.

@Karlos,

I definitely won't be taking any chances with my $3,000+ X1000 computer, which is why I ask lots of questions instead, before buying any 2nd video cards for it, or plugging anything into it. I don't want to see any of that "Magic Blue Smoke" anywhere near my X1000. I have a re-flashed Windows version of the Radeon 8500 for my G4 PowerMac to use while running the Blue Pill, but the re-flashing only supports half of the 128mb of VRAM right now, so it is not much different than my Mac version of the 9000Pro video card and is hardly worth swapping cards. I am looking for help from people who know how to modify video card BIOS files, with the hope that someone can unlock the other half of the VRAM, so all 128mb will be recognized.

@K-L,

Thanks for the link and all the info you have provided. Although hard to find, I will probably try to get the correct version of the Radeon 9000Pro to use as a 2nd video card in my X1000 to play 3D games on and also to be able to run a dual monitor setup.

@Karlos:

Meanwhile I also got a Radeon 8500 with 128MB (Hercules 3D Propohet with active fan and heatsinks on mem chips). After a short try I got confirmed what already has been posted on the beta tester mailing list: Problems with Compositiing and 3D in terms of strange diagonal patterns! The same happens when testing Cube for example: Nothing recognizable on screen.

Currently I dismounted the card. If necessary I can attach it from time to time (please not so often - I fear this will reduce expected life time of my precious Peg2!) and do some testing (hopefully next time I won't forget to take some screenshots!).

Bye

Thanks for confirming that the Radeon 8500 does not work correctly with OS4.1.5. To my knowledge, the 8500 is the fastest R200 based video card ever made, so it was hoped by several people using Peg2 computers that the 8500 could be used for both OS4.1.5 and MorphOS3.1, but now they know it won't work. The 9000Pro is almost as fast as the 8500, so it is a good second choice and is supposed to be supported by OS4.1.5, so that is good.

I just wish I could find an adapter which would fit into a PCIe slot on the Nemo2.1 motherboard, and convert the PCIe slot into an AGP slot, so I could use an AGP Radeon 9000Pro as a second video card in my X1000 for dual monitor setup and playing 3D games. Maybe no company has ever made a PCIe to AGP adapter?

I really like the fact that OS4.1.5 can use two video cards for displaying different screens on two different monitors (or I suppose someone could also just use one monitor that has two different inputs and switch back and forth between the monitor's inputs with the switch, but that would not be as useful).

Don't know. But how about using an PCIe2PCI adapter and hence a Radeon 9000 Pro (or similar, like 9200, 9200 pro, 9250) in PCI version?

PCIe to AGP would be much faster than using a PCI card I think, so since this thread is about the Radeon 8500 being supported or not by AmigaOS4.1.5, any discussion naturally would also be about getting the fastest video card performance.

I will probably just get a Radeon 9250 w/256mb VRAM in the PCI form factor and not worry about the speed difference between the Radeon 8500, 9000, 9000Pro, 9200, or 9250.

I already have a PCIe to PCI adapter in my X1000, so I have a free PCI slot to place a Radeon 9250 PCI video card. Currently I have my Catweasel Mk3 Flipper card in that slot for testing of the Catweasel drivers, but as soon as I obtain a 2nd video card, I will remove the Catweasel Mk3 and replace it with the video card for the 2nd display and do testing with 3D games to measure the speed difference between the supported Radeon video card and the wazp3D software rendering of my X1000 and begin enjoying dual monitors with OS4.1.5 on my X1000. For me, dual monitors on an Amiga computer is a very cool thing, although I am sure it is old hat for many users, as I think it has been possible for a long time, and maybe even could be done on the Zorro slot big box Amigas and AmigaOS3.x 20 years ago. I don't know.
