I'm somewhat of a touch typist and noticed that there is a lot of GUI fllashing when entering a message in the YAM editor. When I type very fast while looking at the screen I can see the toolbar flashing, the tabs flashing or the text in the editor flashing in the middle of the text. It appears to be broken refresh of the GUI elements. When I replaced the Update5 MUI directory with the MUI directory on my backup (Update4) partition the YAM editor GUI flashing disappears. I think something went wrong in the updated MUI in Update5.
Can anyone else confirm this??

Confirmed. I wanted to open a thread about this myself.
At first I thought it was because I had recently disabled the smart refresh in both the GUI and MUI preferences, but a quick test proved that it is not the case.

Re: Update5 MUI bug causes YAM editor GUI flashing
Initially I thought it was a YAM problem. Therefore, I posted a topic at Amigan's about the problem and when somebody mentioned Update5, I thought I should check it out. I didn't realize that Update5 contains a complete MUI update. I think it's really important to get this fixed because a number of "must-have" applications (YAM, MUIOWB, etc.) depend on MUI.saimo wrote:Confirmed. I wanted to open a thread about this myself.

People who look at the keyboard (hunt-n-peck) when entering text might not notice the flashing too much. However, I watch the screen when typing and the flashing is extremely ugly and irritating. I hope we can get someone's attention who can report the problem and get it fixed.

Then let me add that the flickering is extremely noticeable and constant (while typing, that is).xenic wrote:People who look at the keyboard (hunt-n-peck) when entering text might not notice the flashing too much. @saimo
Someone at Amigans suggested that I might be using a different version of YAM or MCC libraries (texteditor). I'll clarify by stating that I'm using YAM 2.7 with all the latest MCC libraries that YAM uses. When I check for updates in YAM none are available; indicating that my external MUI MCC libraries are up to date.

Yes, it's good to specify this. Exactly the same here.xenic wrote:Someone at Amigans suggested that I might be using a different version of YAM or MCC libraries (texteditor). Re: Update5 MUI bug causes YAM editor GUI flashing
Does anyone know how to get this problem reported to the OS4.1 MUI maintainers??

Re: Update5 MUI bug causes YAM editor GUI flashing
I just wanted to add some more information...
1. TextEditor itself is fine: it's enough to type in the sample included in the preferences to see that no flickering happens.
2. The typing speed doesn't matter (a faster speed only increases the chances that the effect is visible in the same unit of time).
3. The problem shows up more/less depending on the line: on some lines it happens a lot, on some others it just doesn't happen.
4. The longer the line, the worse it gets.
5. Even just moving with the cursor up/down causes the flickering.

@all
I write mail to Thore today, with pointing out on that topic, but as weekends going on for now, he pretty possible out of net. Once he will read it , i am sure he will help with all the stuff (but if something will going wrong, i will make a BZ for sure)
ps. just in case , try to disable compositing. there was some problems with some gui elemetns redrawing when compositing is enabled, so worth of checking.
