Context Menus stop working

Post by nubechecorre »

Sometimes (it happens randomly) AmigaOS 4.1 context menus stop working.. I do not know why and I do not know how to replicate this bug but it happens. Sometime it happens when I click on the workbench screen or when I click on the icon and always randomly as it stop working it starts working again.. Any ideas how to catch this bug?

I have had the same occasionally, not very often.

As to the cause or catching the bug, I have no idea :-(

After ages puzzling why I had the problem again today, I found the answer.

For some reason the Context Menus do not work if the Caps Lock key is depressed. The RMB in this case does not seem to get redirected to the CM but just activates the Workbench menus.

I will file a bug report.

Really? Not here. Never had problems with CM and it works here with both my AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 systems with or without CapsLock. I still assume there must be something running alongside CM at your machine which occasionally interferes.

Maybe it depends on the keyboard abnd only affects some people but not all ?

I am using the AmigaKit provided keyboard.

I can confirm that every time the Caps Lock light is on I get the WB menus and not the Context Menus. Take off the caps lock and the Context menus work again.

Maybe there is some deeper problem, but that is what I see every time I toggle the Caps Lock.

I can confirm your observation, Bill.

Does the same thing here on my A1-XE beta system.

It doesn't do it on my keyboard (Microsoft wired keyboard). The caps lock light is on when the system boots but it means the reverse of what you might think. When the light is on the letter keys are lower case unless Shift is held down. When I hit "Caps Lock" the Caps Lock light goes out and all letter keys are upper case. Context Menus work regardless of my "Caps Lock" setting. I have my 'Input' preferences set to 'Amiga keyboard' if that means anything.

I just tried the same thing on my AmigaOne XE.
The Context Menus there work regardless of whether the Caps Lock key is enabled or not.
That is using an older version of Context Menus than on my X1000.
The keyboard is a PS/2. Unfortunately I can't try it in the X1000.

On the X1000, the Context Menus fail to appear when the Caps Lock in enabled.
The keyboard is a USB. I will try this in the A1-XE later.

Maybe the problem only occurs with USB keyboards ?
