Lubuntu 14.10 beta 1 is working with the following limit

Post by Srtest »

I used it with the latest 3.17 kernel RC and not only did it boot ok (the installation at first needed a couple of retries to find the ssd hard drive) it also logged on without the need of a Xorg.conf file!

On the other hand, no opengl was detected meaning no opengl acceleration. Videos work even on the web when using VLC with the viewtube script on firefox, just not using the opengl renderer. Of course 3D games as well are not working.

Evidence :D :D Screeeennnnshooottt. :-) Please try to use the unofficial Mesa for 3D acceleration.

I'm updating my Lubuntu 14.04 to 14.10. I want to do some beta testing.
  1. CTRL+ALT+F1 to change to the console login.
  2. Login as user
  3. Change your user to the root user with

    Code: Select all

    sudo su
  4. Stop X11 with

    Code: Select all

    service lightdm stop
  5. Update the package index of your old 14.04 system:

    Code: Select all

    apt-get update
  6. Upgrade your packages to the latest packages on your old 14.04 system

    Code: Select all

    apt-get upgrade
  7. Update your repositories to the new 14.10 repositories

    Code: Select all

    sed -i 's/trusty/utopic/g' /etc/apt/sources.list
  8. Update the package index of the new 14.10 system:

    Code: Select all

    apt-get update
  9. Upgrade your 14.04 system to version 14.10:

    Code: Select all

    apt-get dist-upgrade
  10. Reboot
  11. Login with your user
  12. Yeah, X11 works without xorg.conf :-)
  13. Tidy up :D

    Code: Select all

    sudo apt-get autoremove
  14. Download the kernel 3.17 RC3: vmlinux-3.17.0-rc3-KVM-PR-FTRACE-AmigaOneX1000.tar.bz2
  15. Unpack the kernel package
  16. Copy the kernel vmlinux-3.17 to the CF card
  17. Copy the kernel modules directory to /lib/modules:

    Code: Select all

    sudo cp -R 3.17.0-rc3_A-EON_AmigaOne_X1000_Nemo /lib/modules
  18. Reboot your A1-X1000 and enter the firmware. If you have autoboot set up, press
CTRL-C. If you have the latest menu-enabled firmware, press the F key to enter the firmware. In
any case, you should end up on the firmware's command prompt which looks like this:

    Code: Select all

    CFE>
  19. Create a CFE boot entry for your new Lubuntu 14.10 for example:

    Code: Select all

    CFE> setenv -p MENU_3_LABEL "Lubuntu 14.10 Kernel 3.17"

    Code: Select all

CFE> setenv -p MENU_3_COMMAND 'set pmu -astate=A4 ; setenv bootargs "root=/dev/sdb7 quiet ro splash" ; boot -elf -noints -fatfs cf0:vmlinux-3.17'
  20. To activate the new Boot Menu type menu and use the arrow keys to select and highlight 3: Lubuntu 14.10 Kernel 3.17 before the timer bar runs down.
@ Srtest
You're right. 3D acceleration doesn't work. :-( And all unofficial Mesa packages don't work either.

It go in Software Resterized mode and not use Gallium 0.4 or Mesa 3d, this issue is the same with PowerMac G5 too... For sure it is a bug from the last Kernel i see the kernel devolopers become creazy with patching this last days . the best way for now is stay with 14.04ts

I can't say it has no 3D acceleration because for me it is not a gaming platform. I use the XVNC driver and I watch HD movies with smplayer or vlc so that is also hardware accelration in practice. If I can watch the new hobbit trailer in 1080p on youtube then what I need works. I did install some games and some of them work and some not like the supertux/never games or nexuiz. That even when not mentioning the fact hat the desktop + firefox seem to work better in this version.

Ohh, and it has a new PCmanFM which seems tighter, I don't know..

Hi All,

I have a solution for the 3D acceleration issue. :-)

Installation instructions
  1. Download the unofficial MesaLib package for Lubuntu 14.10.
    Image
    Download: MesaLib-1.0.0.4-Lubuntu_14.10-powerpc-test.tar.bz2
  2. Unpack it
  3. Install the Debian packages with the following commands:

    Code: Select all

    sudo dpkg -i libdrm-nouveau1a_2.4.52-1~precise1_powerpc.deb

    Code: Select all

    sudo dpkg -i libgl1-mesa-dri_8.0.4-0ubuntu0.7_powerpc.deb

  4. Copy the folder mesa-10.0.4 as root to the directory /usr/local/

    Code: Select all

    sudo cp -R mesa-10.0.4 /usr/local/

  5. Please, restart your A1-X1000
  6. Set up the new library path

    Code: Select all

    export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/mesa-10.0.4/lib/

  7. Test it with glxgears. After that you can start some games for example SuperTuxKart.
  8. SuperTuxKart needs a special run_game.sh for the new Mesa:

    Code: Select all

    LD_LIBRARY_PATH=./bin/:/usr/local/mesa-10.0.4/lib bin/supertuxkart

If you want that Mesa works system wide and after rebooting then you have to add the line export LD_LIBRARY_PATH= to the .profile file in your home directory.

Have a lot of fun with the the new unofficial Mesa. :-)

I confirm your solution works also with the 10.1.3 dri.

I don't understand - should I add
"export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/usr/local/mesa-10.0.4/lib/"
to the ".profile" file, or,
should I add "export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="
to the ".profile" file?
