Just for info: If you have installed Ubuntu from the DVD then you have to add your user to the group "audio" and "video". That's very important for the sound and 3D acceleration.


sudo usermod -aG audio your username



sudo usermod -aG video your username

BTW, tip for whomever created the install docks that came with the DVD... Maybe point out an easy way to copy the Linux kernel to the CF card in the X1000 is via the Ubuntu Live DVD. It mounts the CF drive nice and clean in the left dock and I easily copied it from there.

From my testing Unity 3D or Gnome Shell will not work properly or at all on the X1000 with any Linux flavour :( I'm not sure exactly why since we have modern graphics cards with working 3D on the X1000. The Ubuntu Remix DVD is set to default to Unity 2D. The only version of Gnome I would recommend ...

I presume you are referring to the Unity Shopping Lens for Amazon? It is not part of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS as it only released in 12.10. It can be easily disabled from 12.10 onwards in privacy settings or by removing the package.

According to Pat wall (I think) its a feature of Ubuntu for PowerPC and that is why the Unity Desktop was selected for the Ubuntu Remix DVD.

I'm sure Pat can provide more details, if he sees your post ...
