I wonder if anyone can answer me what the issue could be here?

I've bought a Kingston 120Gb SSD drive to use specifically for linux to replace my hard drive. I currently also have two SSD drives running off the onboard sata ports for use with AmigaOS4.1 and i also have a sil3512 Sata controller which previously had my Linux hard disk and my cd rom drive running from it

I swapped one of the drives on the onboard sata ports to install Linux on my new drive as it couldn't see the drive at first when doing the Ubuntu installation so when this installed and i changed the bootargs env it was registered as sdb1. Problem then appeared when i tried to then run AmigaOS 4 and it didn't see my 2nd Amiga SSD drive under the sil3512.device in media toolbox. i then swapped the sata ports back to how they were originally so onbard sata= 2 AmigaOS ssd drives and from the Sata controller runs my linux ssd drive and my cdrom. Linux on startup can see my cdrom but it cannot see my linux drive and i have tried to amend the drive name to sda1,sdc1 or even sdd1 but it still wont show.

i realise this may sound a little odd, but is there a limitation to the number of ssd drives you can run at any one time and if not how can i get this to work??

Do you also have a USB stick (or CD-ROM) from which you can boot Linux? If you get it running and start 'GParted', can it see the SSD drive under sil3512, and how are the sdx definitions shown there?

Never heard of that kind of limitation...

I have no problem running this from a usb stick, however I from looking at the startup sequence something is not being recognised if someone can advise what the attached means.

Basically when the hard disk is installed the drive is sdc1 but when it picks up sdc1 here this is referring to a USB key I have in with the Linux installer files it’s like it’s not seeing the drive connected to the sata controller. Yet I plug in the same drive on to the onboard sata and it then sees it. The downside being that I then plug one of my AmigaOS 4 drive into the sata controller but I then can’t see the 2nd Amiga drive in AmigaOS

I plug the hard disk with Linux back in and everything works...

Seeing this thread I want to add a question of my own:

I have three 250GB SSD in my X5000 on which I want to install AmigaOS, MorphOS and Linux separately.
Since there are of course only two onboard SATA ports on the X5000 main board, I have bought a cheap SIl3132 SATA extension PCIE card. Upon USB booting Ubuntu 16.04 LTS I however don’t see the intended SSD which is connected to the SATA card on which I want to install Linux. How should I proceed so that Ubuntu is recognizing the Sil3132 card and the attached SSD on my X5000?

Be careful with the SIl3132 cards.
I encountered damaged data and partitions when testing on X5000/20 and Sam460ex.
A Marvel 88SE9215 chipset based card works well for me on the X5000/20 .

Nothing remotely familiar to the Sil3132 it seems. I tested the card on another machine (x86) and I was able to get into the cards menu so it seems to be functioning (not DOA). Do I have to provide Ubuntu with some sort of configuration data at USB boot for this to work?

Thank you very much for this advice! I will do some research on this Marvel chipset. Especially if there are any good affordable pci-e cards.
