I have a problem booting OS4.1 on A Sam 440ep-flex from an SDcard in an external USB SDcard reader.
The SD card is recognized as a bootlable drive by UBoot and will load the Kickstart files from it.
After this OS4.1 loads from the hard drive instead of the SDcard. I have noted that the SD card does not
appear at all in the devices in the Early startup menu.
The SD card reader is a combo SDCard and Sim card reader and the SDcard shows up in OS 4.1 update2 once it boots for the hard drive.
I am able to boot OS4.1 from an identically configured flash drive in the same usb port and the flash drive
shows up as a bootable device in the early startup menu.

Have you tried using NVSetVar boot1 [To your device abbreviation]

It's probably something I'd try to do given the circumstances

It'll probably set it fine (since I don't think NVSetVar really cares what you want to define) but whether or not it is properly recognised is another thing altogether

Uboot settings

scan_usb_storage=1
boot1=usb
boot2=s4siicdrom
boot3=s4sii

As I have said a usb flashdrive boots ok and acts as expected. the SDcard in the reader does not

ok sorry, guess you need something extra or tweaked in DEVS:USB or at least a uboot update and perhaps an associated sii3114ide_conf parameter addition... but enough of my horrible speculation

It seems as if there is some kind of usb power reset or something after kickstart loads that caused the drive to be lost until OS 4.1 starts .

They must have fixed UBoot for the Sam. When I tried to boot off USB on my A1 it was dog slow. Seemed like 100K a second!

It made USB1.1 look extremely fast.

There is a 'USBCTRL start' command in the Startup Sequence. I do not have a SDcard.
So the OS stack, logs, and all that stuff is ....er....initialized, transferred at that time.

Anybody....Yes??

Is the SD card recognized if the system has been properly booted?

Thanks for the nudge.

It works now with a newer external card reader and update 3.

The older card reader seems to give uboot some problems every other boot attempt.
