Re: New kernels

Post by xeno74 »

Hi All,

I tested the alpha6 on my X5000/40 today and it doesn't boot.

I connected my X5000/40 with a null modem RS-232 serial cable to my PC for getting error messages.

Code: Select all

X5000> setenv bootargs root=/dev/sda4 console=ttyS0,115200
Log file: PuTTY_P5040_U-Boot.log

The X5000/20 isn't affected.

I reported this issue to the kernel developers: FSL P5040 board doesn't boot after DRM updates (drm-next-2024-09-19)

Cheers,
Christian

I tested the latest Git kernel with my VAPOR-X Radeon HD5870 1GB GDDR5 PCI-E DUAL DVI-I/HDMI/DP on my X1000 today.
Unfortunately it has the same issue like my X5000/40.

I think it depends on which graphics card is used.

It could be, that the X5000/20 is also affected.

Hi All,

The merge window is over. Linus Torvalds has released the RC1 of kernel 6.12 for testing.

I compiled it with the Radeon DRM driver from the kernel 6.11 for the X1000 and X5000 today.

Download and further information: github.com

Alternative download link: linux-image-6.12-rc1-X1000_X5000.tar.gz (xenosoft.de)

Please test the kernels.

Thanks,
Christian

I thought I might as well give it a try. Since I have to reboot any, I use it as a chance for another look at adelie, and can report no obvious problems here.

Great, that it works on your X5000. You can use the new Radeon DRM driver after the DRM device rework.
This new driver doesn’t work on Trevor‘s and my X5000/40. PuTTY serial log (alpha6): PuTTY_P5040_U-Boot.log
It doesn’t work on my X1000 either.

Fantastic, that the old Radeon DRM driver works together with the new RC1 of kernel 6.12.

Have you noticed any differences between the new and the old Radeon DRM driver?

All good Christian :-D
