Thanks, guys. This machine is going to be a lot of fun! There will be days and weeks of setting up and configuring my system, but after that I plan to be creative and productive with it. First observation is that doing even the small things, like opening a drawer full of icons, is quite noticeable in its snappiness. This computer is nobody's slouch!

Only real hiccup I've had was that the monitors tab was greyed out in the screenmode preferences editor for some reason and so I had some trouble getting things right for my monitor. I eventually worked through that last night (thanks to help from some Amigans on IRC), so I'm cooking with gas now. :-D

Thanks to all the beta testers and First Contact customers who went before me -- you gave me the confidence to spend the money! Thank you, Trevor, for being the "enabler" on this adventure.

Does that mean yours is one of the first "new batch" X1000s?

Big congrats! Hope you enjoy yours as much as I am enjoying mine.

You will probably be more productive than I since I did not come from an Amiga background back in the day but I have mine chugging along nicely so it does something fun.

I have much more to do on it but in time.

Thanks again for the well wishes -- and thank you also to Matt, Chris and all the AmigaKit gang. I'm having fun! Chris, yes I'm a "second batch" customer -- must be one of the first since the full manufacturing and delivery process is expected to take much of the remainder of the year.

Congrats Mike!

I was not aware that any of the 2nd batch of "First Contact" AmigaOne X1000's had already been shipped out. There should have been an announcement of this fact on one, or both of the AmigaKit & A-Eon websites (maybe there is, as I have not visited to look, but I have not seen any news announcements on any forum sites I visit either).

I look forward to talking to you about your X1000 experiences in the near future (I really should use IRC more often).

Any chance you can make it to AmiWest this year? You could set up your X1000 right next to mine at the show on my rented display table.

Hey, Dave! Thanks... I am enjoying the new computer quite a lot. Still in the early phase of getting things set up like I want -- but that's fun too. I registered my interest in buying an X1000 in the first batch but missed out, so that's probably why I lucked out in being early in the new batch. I'd suffer quite a lot if I had to wait another six months, let me tell you! Anyway, AmigaKit is supposed to be making some announcements soon. But in any case I have to think that anyone who wants an X1000 this year will have registered their interest already and will be hearing from AmigaKit.

Unfortunately, I will not be attending AmiWest this year. It's something I wish I could do. But my company is reorganizing on Oct. 1, and I am one of the lucky few who avoided the job cuts and will have a good spot in the new organization. October would be a bad time to be away because of this.

Maybe next year I could come and bring an AmigaOne netbook. :-) No way will I travel 3,000 miles with my X1000! Heh.

And, yes, IRC is a great way to communicate. But the old-fashioned telephone can work too.

Back to the X1000 now.... Got more configuring/installing/tweaking to do with my beloved assortment of 68K programs. (Why isn't VistaPro working now? And why is LightWave working when you and Stephen couldn't render on your X1000s? LW renders perfectly fine on my X1000, so that was a pleasant surprise.)

*Edited to fix my spelling errors.

You have LightWave3D working on your X1000?!?

We definitely need to talk via IRC, or phone, or better yet, a video Skype call over a laptop where you can point your webcam at your X1000 screen where I can see what you are doing while we work together to get my X1000 working with LightWave3D just like yours. That is one of the programs I really want to run on my X1000, instead of switching to Blender. I also need help getting LightWave3D working on my G4 PowerBook while running MorphOS3.0, but that is a discussion for another time on another forum site.

Let me know when you have a few free hours on one of your days off from work, or even some evening when you are not busy with something else.
