I use xrandr --size 1920x1080 for the VirtIO GPU (e5500 QEMU VM).

I have a different issue when I tried to run from QEMU on my Mac in that it comes up at a weird colour depth (and no acceleration I don't think) but I'll start a separate thread for that since it's not specific to Mint I don't think. I think I tried Fienix too but don't quote me on that.

Ah, I see. You mean the console output. xrandr is for X11.

I do / did, but the resolution in X could do with setting as well because the login screen is using 4k too. I'll play about with xrandr and getting it to run on start via Xsession. It's getting there though.

OK, solved the LXDM resolution by bypassing login and auto-logging in my user. Bit of a cheat, but sometimes life's just too short  Maybe later I'll revisit it properly.

Well done, I hope you enjoy MintPPC!
Edit:you might want to try lightdm, it might work better in this respect.

Code: Select all

sudo apt install lightdm
sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm
Choose lightdm
Restart

Actually I did try it and then I no longer got the scaling options in the desktop monitor settings - I think because of the use of xrandr during the lighted startup. That was the point I decided to just auto login since I knew that once I'm logged in everyone works nicely at 4k scaled to 200%. Or it seems to anyway. With Lightdm, the desktop was 1920x1080 but if I right clicked the desktop then manus weren't scaled to 200% and no doubt other elements would be the same.

I'll revisit once the machine is reassembled and I have a bit more time.
