Hi All,

I updated my ubuntu MATE 16.10 PowerPC today and I saw a lot of ubuntu MATE packages for update. The update worked without any problems.
Unfortunately "Welcome" still doesn't work.

I followed suit three days later, and had my hopes up when I saw that Welcome was one of the things being upgraded. But alas, not upgraded enough yet.

Hi All,

I updated ubuntu MATE 16.10 PowerPC yesterday and I got the new Mesa version 12.0.3.

Ubuntu MATE 16.10 Beta 2 is released.

I was able to update ubuntu MATE 16.10 to Beta 2 on my AmigaOne X1000 today. All things work except the "Welcome" screen.

I was able to boot the ubuntu MATE 16.10 Beta 2 Live DVD with my AmigaOne X1000.

Unfortunately we need a xorg.conf with a configured fbdev on the Live DVD. Without a xorg.conf, the MATE desktop doesn't start and we can't switch to a shell.
I solved this problem with the following commands:

1. Code: Select all

   CFE> ramdisk -addr=0x24000000 -fs=iso atapi0.1:casper/powerpc64/initrd

2. Code: Select all

   CFE> setenv bootargs "root=/dev/ramdisk boot=casper single“

3. Code: Select all

   CFE> boot -elf -noints -fatfs cf0:vmlinux-4.8

4. Press Enter for maintenance

5. Code: Select all

   dhclient

6. Code: Select all

   wget http://www.xenosoft.de/X.org.conf.zip

7. Code: Select all

   unzip X.org.conf.zip

8. Code: Select all

   cp xorg.conf.radeon /etc/X11/xorg.conf

9. Code: Select all

   vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf

   I replaced radeon with fbdev

10. Code: Select all

    init 5

The desktop works from the Live DVD but unfortunately the installer (ubiquity) crashed.



I also tested the Beta 2 ISO with QEMU. I was able to boot the Beta 2 ISO with a virtual PowerMac G4 machine with QEMU/KVM PR.



Unfortunately it doesn't boot with a virtual G3 machine anymore. The default kernel from the live DVD needs a CPU with AltiVec support. It doesn't boot with a virtual pSeries either.

Please test the Beta 2.

I was hoping Software Updater would do the trick, but even after a long download and install session, I'm still at 1.16.0, so I guess I really have to start all over?

1.16.0 is the MATE version.

Oh! I assumed Welcome would work in the release version.
