Comment # 27 on bug 89862 from Michel Dänzer

Sounds like the crashes are fixed.

The wrong colours are probably (related to) the well-known Gallium driver
endianness bugs.

I tried the daily build ISO on a virtual QEMU/KVM G4 machine today. Xorg works but a login screen appears after the boot. I tried to login with the user 'ubuntu-mate' without a password but it doesn't work.

Hi All,

I tried the daily build iso of ubuntu MATE 15.04 on a virtual QEMU/KVM G4 machine last week. Xorg works but a login screen appears after the boot. I tried to login with the user 'ubuntu-mate' without a password but it didn't work. Today I tested the latest daily build iso of ubuntu MATE 15.04 in a virtual QEMU/KVM PowerPC machine. It boots without a login screen to the desktop. It means the problem with the login screen is gone and Xorg works. But unfortunately the icons have wrong colors. I installed FVWM and it has wrong colors either. I think it is a Xorg problem.

Rgds,

Christian

I tested the latest daily build iso again and I removed Mesa in the live DVD session. Unfortunately it didn't solve the problem with the wrong colors after a new login.

I installed Lubuntu from a vivid alternate-powerpc.iso and after boot I installed Mate. Due to the incorrect colors, almost all themes are useless. However, the theme "high contract" is usable without too many wrong colors. The color error destroys the real possibility of using Vivid. I got a Xorg error the first time I logged but it disappeared after I reinstalled xorg. It was not possible to take a screenshot that could be used because of the color error. This picture is taken with acamera.

Thank you for the test. :-) If you want right colors then you have to downgrade Xorg to version 1.16.0.

@All

I updated ubuntu MATE 15.04 PowerPC on my A-EON AMIGA one X1000 today. In 3 days is the official release day for ubuntu MATE 15.04. My installed Upstart was not replaced by the Software Updater. Xorg works but the icons in the MATE panel and in the MATE menus have wrong colors. The icons on the desktop have right colors. I downgraded Xorg to version 1.16.0.

Code: Select all

dpkg -i xserver-xorg-core_1.16.0-1ubuntu1.3_powerpc.deb
dpkg -i xserver-xorg-video-radeon_7.4.0-2ubuntu2_powerpc.deb
After a new login (not restart) all icons have the right colors.

You can find these debs in the following package:

Xorg_and_unofficial_Mesa_for_ubuntu_MATE_15.04_AMIGA_one_X1000.tar.gz

Interesting, after the update it doesn't called 'development version'. It's Ubuntu 15.04. :-) I tested the unofficial Mesa 10.0.4 with 'glxgears' and with SuperTuxKart 0.8.1 AltiVec. It works without any problems. You can find the unofficial Mesa 10.0.4 in the package above too. Audio/sound works very well too.

Conclusion

ubuntu MATE works perfect with Upstart, Xorg 1.16.0, and the unofficial Mesa 10.0.4 currently. I hope the developers fix the problems with Xorg, systemd, and Mesa in the future. I can recommend you the package Xorg_and_unofficial_Mesa_for_ubuntu_MATE_15.04_AMIGA_one_X1000.tar.gz. It includes all packages for a very well working ubuntu MATE 15.04 PowerPC. ;-) I want to test ubuntu MATE 15.04 further after the release.

You have to install two Xorg packages.

xserver-xorg-core_1.16.0-1ubuntu1.3_powerpc.deb
xserver-xorg-video-radeon_7.4.0-2ubuntu2_powerpc.deb

If you installed these packages in the past then could you post the dependencies error please.

Could you try:

sudo dpkg -i libgcrypt11_1.5.4-2ubuntu1_powerpc.deb ?

Thanks
