I see on Hyperion's Blog that they have placed the Debian Squeeze kernel and X1000 installation guide in their download area for all registered owners of the X1000 to download and use.

Now I just need to find a link to that download area. I hope that my registration here in these support forums for X1000 owners will be recognized by this website and will allow me into the download area, so I can download the Debian Squeeze kernel and the X1000 installation guide.

Off to look for the download area for Hyperion and hoping that it will automatically recognize my login and allow me to get those downloads today.

I think you've probably already discovered that the two sites are independent and you have registered there and typed in the serial for AmigaOS4.1.5 for the X1000 so you can access the Linux download area.

Yep! I had already registered on both sites, so it was no problem downloading the two files for the guide and the kernel. Now I am just waiting for the long download of the Debian 6.04 install DVD to finish, so I should have everything I need to do the install on my X1000 and try it out.

Is the link broken or the site busy?
I have downloaded the kernel but I cannot download the installation guide.

Timberwolf, OWB and Firefox only find a 0 byte file, while NetSurf says "transfer closed with 3074933 bytes remaining to read"

My mistake. File permissions were not set correctly. Fixed now.

There was a last minute update to the guide which is now at 1.8.3.

I have installed Debian Squeeze 6.0.4 Kernel "vmlinux39" in my AmigaONE X 1000.
The result was perfect, good job with the Installation Guide v1.8.3
thanks to all those who have enabled this project to the AmigaONE X1000.

Greetings

Neat, thanks for your hard work guys, I dont know if I will risk it, I'm pretty sure I can do it, but dont want to risk messing up my Amiga set up. Will re-read that manual a few times before I try any thing.

Excellent.

Did you have any difficulty or notice any errors/typos with the instructions?

Hi Trevor

Just two very minor points on page 20 of v1.8.3 :)
1) cp -r /media/USB/2.6.39.4X1000 /lib/modules should read (lowercase 'usb')

Code: Select all

cp -r /media/usb/2.6.39.4X1000 /lib/modules

2) The reference to GNOME 3 should probably read GNOME 2 for the default Squeeze install.

The guide is really good, very clear and a lot of effort was obviously put in to creating it - really appreciate it :D

Thanks again

Pat

Pat

Anyone know if Gnome 3 can be installed on this?

Or is that a Wheezy INstall only that can use Gnome 3?
