It is in /sbin/e2fsck. Please try /sbin/e2fsck -f.

resize2fs and tune2fs are also in /sbin.
It is indeed as you say. But I still get that "bash: e2fsck: command not found"! And run adelie (now the new 0623 version supposedly) still boots fienix! At least it does it with the rc5 kernel.

Made some progress. "Run adelie" now gets me a screen that reads:

Code: Select all

Welcome to Adélie Linux!
You may log in as 'root' to install, or 'live' to play around.
The default root password is 'live' (without quotes).

Have fun.
X5000 login: _
Both 'root' and 'live' are rejected as "incorrect."

I tried to post this pic which shows another major good of some sort. When I took another look at GParted I found a second very tiny "boot" adelie in /dev/sda12. I don't know how it got there; I never set up such a partition.
Screenshot at 2024-06-28 16-38-28.png
Before shutting down the computer I had a go at "run"ing the /sda12 adelie. It ended with that "rebooting in 180 seconds" line. I guess next I'll try dd'ing the .img file to /sda11 again. (later) It couldn't find something related to the kernel.

The "login incorrect" line gets repeated twice when I try "live" or "root" to log in on the /sda11 version.

You can also try the new noboot disk image.

Please note: There is only a root partition in the disk image. There aren't any kernels in this disk image. You need a boot partition with a kernel and a dtb file.

So many things kept going wrong it took over five hours but I finally got to try booting what should be the noboot disk image. I wasn't allowed to set a destination when I downloaded it, but somehow I finally got it into Downloads. Then I started Pluma to finish this note, and discovered that one of my first download tries this afternoon is in fienix Home, as a 12:20 PM 1.5 GB Raw disk image. The one I finally got into Downloads is 707.1 MB. I still get the e2fsck problem message, even though that is in /sbin/, where it is supposed to be.

My previous image file was adelie-ppc-1.0-beta5-20240623.img 7.1 GB Raw disk image Wed 26 Jun 03:59:17

Apparently I am supposed to boot the "noboot" version differently from the previous one. I haven't quite figured out how, yet. I do the "noboot" just like I do the other, which is the way I boot fienix, except with a different root location:

adelie=setenv bootargs root=/dev/sd11 console=ttyS0,115200 console=tty0 ; fatload mmc 0:1 1000000 uImage-6.10 ; fatload mmc 0:1 2000000 cyrus_p5020_eth_power.dtb ; bootm 1000000 - 2000000

Unrelated windows keep popping up today during dearchiving and as I type this note: AMIGAONE and a flash drive I use to transfer files between my various platforms.

I'm not sure what do try next. Trying to log in to the new adelie gets me the same incorrect loging message I was getting before. Anything to do with the e2fsck problem? I'll try dd'ing the one in Home. Do I have to empty the destined partition first?

It should be 13GB. Maybe a download issue?

Could you please post the output of

"md5sum adelie-ppc-1.0-beta5-20240623.img.tar.bz2"

Thanks

It's what you gave as md5sum in your introductory post:
07ed703a167fe59b7d0dc660fc99821f (copied via Shift+Ctrl+C)

I have Engrampa working on it again. Meanwhile I got rc6 set up already while waiting for Engrampa to finish. I guess I'll go check my mail and my garden while I wait. It seems to take forever, and still doesn't give me a full-size .img file.

When I got back Engrampa had stopped. I hope 12.9 GB is close enough and I'll dd it to /dev/sda11 if I can tell dd where to find it. Engrampa doesn't give a good hint, just "Location: [file icon] / "
...
No luck. I find the 1.5 .img I made yesterday, in " / home [house icon] fienix."

I was a little bit worried when I could only dd 6.21 GiB of my 12.9 GB image file.
But sure enough, up came adelie, via the rc6 kernel, with links to almost all of my Linux stuff. I'm typing this on Kate(?). If it turns out I can't send it from here (Dolphin?) I'll copy it to my thumb drive and send it later from fienix or Windows.

OK, there's a lot to learn, but it'll probably be fun. It looks like I am going to have to find some magic numbers before I can get the internet, email, KDE, etc. I did have to use my thumb drive to get the paragraph above to fienix where I could post it here. But I'm a lot closer than I was before Christian gave me that "tar jxvf" lifesaver.
