Edit: Are there any problems with the Debian installer and new kernels?

The only problem I had with installing using a new kernel was with Mint-11.
It got almost to the end of the process when it just stopped and complained
about a missing module (I think ?). Thats when I dropped back to 3.5.7 to do
the install.

Thank you for your answer. Very interesting. Does MintPPC 11 need a special kernel? I don't work with Mint, therefore I have no knowledge about the installation of MintPPC 11.

I'm not sure.

I'm using a custom 3.10 kernel with Mint-11. If I can find another HD
I'll try installing Mint with your latest kernel, but that might be awhile
in the future.

I'm not sure..

With most of the Distro installs I used the kernel that was available at that time to do the initial installation, and then just used the new kernels to boot the Distro, as and when new updates became available.

If I get some time I will try a new MintPPC install using the latest kernel (3.13.1)

I tried installing MintPPC-11 with your kernel 3.13-rc6. The install gets to a point
where it wants to install/use BusyBox and then just will not go further. I tried it
several times.

I again tried the 3.5.7 kernel and all went smooth.

At this time I would say the 3.5.7 kernel should be kept available for installing
MintPPC/Debian-squeeze-wheezy.

It takes between 3 and 4 hours to test each kernel to see if it will do
a complete install of MintPPC. Mostly due to a slow internet connection.

I don't mind testing them, I'm just wondering if there is a specific reason
to do so when the 3.5.7 kernel does the job as well as the others.

Of course the difficult part of any installation is now the configuring post
install. Sound, video, fonts, etc., to get a distro the way each individual
may wish their computer to look and react the way they want it, including which
kernel is used to run the system.

So,,, is there a reason not to simply use 3.5.7 for the install?

It also works AOK for both MintPPC 9 and 11 (squeeze and jessie).
