Hi Christian,
I think the cause of the display distortion is the radeon driver (xserver-xorg-video-radeon). Please try to replace /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/radeon_drv.so with this version.

Thanks for the information! I use Marco/Compton so I didn't know there was a problem with Compiz. Does the version of Compiz you installed fix the display distortion problem as well?
-Casey
Hi Casey,

It only fixes the window decoration issue. The display distortion still exists. I think the issue come from another Debian package.

BTW, your wallpapers are great! :-) Thanks a lot! :-)

Hi Casey,

It works better! :-) Sometimes I still see graphical issues but not very often. It solved the issue to 95%.

Thanks,

Hi Casey,

I can't watch videos with the VLC anymore because there are some options missing.

Video:
  • Enable video -- is available
  • Display: Accelerated video output (Overlay) -- isn't available anymore
  • Output: OpenGL GLX video output (XCB) -- isn't available anymore
Could you please check the VLC?

Thanks,
Christian

I'm not able to replicate this issue. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

If you launch VLC and go to Help>About, what version shows?
Do you have VLC libraries at usr/local/lib/vlc?

Also, I've added compiz-mate, please install it and let me know if compiz works.

Hi Casey,

I was able to install compiz-mate today. It works fantastic! :-) Many thanks! :-)

VLC: It shows the version 3.0.4 Vetinari. Yes, there are some libraries in the directory /usr/local/lib/vlc.

BTW, the MATE System Monitor shows the Fienix logo again! Thanks!

VLC works still ok here, at least with MP4 videos. It is the same version (3.0.4) as Christian has. I updated Fienix about a week ago.

Hi Casey,

I copied the Fienix image with 'dd' to the old Fienix partition again today. After that I updated it and then I installed some programs. All problems are gone! Sorry because of the false alarm! There are no graphics issues and VLC issues anymore. Thank you for your help and sorry because of the false alarm.

Sorry,

Christian

Hi All,

It seems the kernel is responsible for the VLC issue. I tested the RC3 of kernel 5.1 today and I can't play videos with VLC and ViewTube anymore.

I figured out, that the VLC player doesn't play videos anymore since the RC2 of kernel 5.1. VLC plays videos with the RC1 of kernel 5.1 without any problems. The issue is between the RC1 and the RC2.

I tested the VLC 3.0.4 (Fienix) and VLC 2.2.2 (ubuntu MATE 16.04.6).

Please test the VLC and ViewTube with the RC3 of kernel 5.1.

Thanks,
Christian
