Please try the command depmod after copying the kernel modules directory.

Have you updated recently? This is exactly what happens with my new Debian 64 install. Systemd is corrupt and crashes. But apt was broken even before then and crashes. Bit hard to boot and install packages. :-D
Hi Hypex
It's been a while since this happened. I log in with the kernel 5 series (5.11)and it doesn't give any errors. Then I can update and hope that the error is fixed

Does it work with the stable long-term kernel 5.10.235?

Thanks. I thought that may be needed. I've seen it in installer scripts.

I tried it and it works! :-)

So it looks like there is an issue with using Linux version 6.12.17-powerpc64-smp. The kernel included is 6.6.15-powerpc64 which I thought would be close as it's in the same 6.x series. You found my posting on the Debian ppc list which now has a reply. Upon further investigation it looks like the kernel release I used is too new as there is some issue in the ELF loader with ELF header being in the codes listed. The ELF header is where the machine code should be. :!:

As I replied to xeno74 I tested kernel 5.10.235 and it worked. However, I am unable to log in as root or user, so wonder if the conflicting kernel caused trouble on installed system as well. I was able to chroot and do an apt update. But booting the system just got me to a log in prompt. Hopefully don't need to reinstall again. Already wiped it once. :-)
