@colinw
Thank you (and all the others involved) for getting this fix out so quickly! :D I wouldn't have bothered investigating a workaround if I knew the fix was coming so soon; I was figuring we'd have to wait for Update 3.
It's a much lower priority, but hopefully at some point we'll get new ...

Re: Bug in FE Update 2 Date Command
us.pool.ntp.org seems to have gotten less reliable lately, and I've been having Date crash on bootup once or twice a week. So I reverted timesync.library back to version 53.7. That didn't fix the problem though, and Date continues to crash when fetching the time from a server if the server is ...

Re: Bug in FE Update 2 Date Command
@Raziel
I too have a >NIL: after the command, but for some reason it always crashes on my system, rather than printing masses of garbage. That made it easier to track down the cause.
So far I've just been living with it. On the rare occasions when the crash occurs, I just tell the Reaper to kill ...

Re: Bug in FE Update 2 Date Command
I have never had this problem with my own ISP's NTP server, and I haven't heard about others having it, except for you.
And me! That's how I discovered the bug in the first place. I use a similar NTP server to dstastny -- us.pool.ntp.org -- to set the date and time from Network-Startup every time ...

Re: Bug in FE Update 2 Date Command
@Niels
Yes, my timesync.library is version 53.8.
I captured two crashlogs, one via Grim Reaper, and the other via serial (each on a different crash right after booting).
I also captured the serial output (non-debug kernel) while the command was hung after ignoring the DSI. Finally, I grabbed the ...

I just rebooted, ran Locale prefs to confirm that the preferred language is still english, and ran the offending Date command again. I again got the crash, rather than the garbage output. So it seems inconsistent, like a wild pointer where the result depends on what it happens to end up ...

If by system you mean the computer, I have an X1000. In Locale prefs I have the preferred laguage set to english (and so am presumably using built-in default text), the country set to United States, and the timezone set to UTC - 8 hours.
Hmm- I just noticed that when I brought up the Locale ...

Bug in FE Update 2 Date Command
I've stumbled across a bug in the FE Update 2 Date command- it crashes when asked to set the time from a remote server that doesn't exist or is offline (the latter being how I discovered it).

Hope that helps
Thanks, Raziel, that worked perfectly!

Re: Can't connect to network
It may be a silly question, but do you have an 8139 PCI card plugged into the computer? Is your network cable connected to that card or to the Ethernet connector on the X-1000 motherboard?
AFAIK, the X-1000 motherboard's Ethernet is not yet supported.
I should have mentioned that I am using the ...
