Can the HDMI port on the stock X1000 Video Card be used to send video to a HDMI monitor?
Is there any benefit of doing this over the DVI port has to offer?

HDMI is basically DVI with (optional) added audio data using a different connector.** You can connect to an HDMI monitor using a DVI to HDMI adaptor, which is just two connectors and a bunch of wires. There is no benefit of using HDMI.

But can I do HDMI to HDMI? I see the video card on my X1000 has a HDMI port so figured rather than go the DVI to HDMI converter, would just try HDMI to HDMI.
I happen to be going DVI to DVI right now as my display has 3 different connectors but just wondered if the X1000 video HDMI port works or not for video only.

I have been using a regular HDMI to HDMI cable to connect my X1000 HD4650 card (stock with the X1000) to my 37" Vizio television/monitor.
Some televisions handle it better than others, the X1000 works great this way. I handle sound separately so I don't miss it a bit.

@MacSociety
You can use whichever sort of video cable you like, the resulting picture will be the same. But I think you'll find that you'll have to reboot if you change the cables after booting the system.

Will HDMI audio be supported in the future? Maybe when the drivers for onboard audio are finished...?
