Fan Control switch for Fractal X1000 Case

I see in my Fractal box of screws and doodads there appears a rotary switch, my guess to control fan speed.

Anyone using this with X1000?

Just curious if it actually wires up to manually slow or speed-up the main fan or not.

I have it wired up to one of the fans in my system, and I can adjust the fan at will. Aside from initially setting the speed, I have no need to adjust it though, so I would have preferred a unit that didn't take up an expansion slot.

Which fan did you slow down? The one big rear white one on back of X1000 case?

Did it make it quieter?

To be honest, the Case fans are very quiet already, its the cpu fan thats loud.
Just so you know that fan control wont work with cpu fan, as it has no voltage control, its a straight 12v fan.

I'd have to open the case to check which one, as I cannot remember. This is more a case of me installing something "because it's there" than for any specific goal.

I replaced the CPU fan with another of the same size, but much quieter. I think it even blows more air, because the heatsink is cooler now.

As a result, I can now run the X-1000 at night without having to close the door to that room.

Got a link to the exact model tonyw?

Someone had to ask the question and when I have both going it might get noisy in here ;)

Slayer is in the process of moving his computer room around with this very goal in mind

I'm not sure where it came from (out of the 'fans' box), but like all the others in there, it's almost certainly a Jaycar fan that I've bought years ago and never used until now. It's probably a model YX-2505:

Where are you, David? There are several Jaycar shops in Kiwiland.

Infact here it is the very store I visit

My Fractal Design case also came with a fan controller. It looks just like yours. I can use it to change the fan speed from full power to off or anything in between.

I don't use the fan controller much, because the fans from Fractal Design don't make much noise (I have three of them) even when running at full speed.

Kind regards,

Dennis
