PartitionWizard does not run

I have not installed much new software on my new X1000 computer, so it is mostly a virgin installation. Yesterday, I tried to test an external hard drive with USB3 (USB2 compatible) interface on my X1000. When I plugged it in to my X1000, there was a message box that flashed on my Workbench screen, but it was only there for a second or less and I could not read it that fast. The drive spins up and the indicator light on it is turned on, but no icon for it shows up on the Workbench screen.

I tried to run PartitionWizard, but it would not open or start anything and no error message was provided. I thought that it was a tool similar to HDToolBox, since I can't find HDToolBox in any of my drawers. I looked around for some other kind of hard drive partitioning tool, but could not find anything. I tried Ranger, to see if it would indicate that the external hard drive was connected to the USB port, but had no luck there.

Can anyone here educate me and let me know where HDToolBox went to? I want to use this external 1.5TB USB hard drive as a backup device for my X1000 and a few other computers of mine, so I want to create partitions for each computer that I want to backup to this drive.

It's very logical (to some?): To wizard partitions unto your drive you need - no, not Partition Wizard, but Media Toolbox, while for various diagnostic and recovery tools - a toolbox for your media, you need - no not Media Toolbox, but Partition Wizard.

Clear now? :-D

Media Toolbox is in the System drawer, BTW.

Best regards,

Niels

I have found some USB HDD a little "hit and miss" under AmigaOS 4. For example both my 1TB Seagate and 1TB WD USB drive are recognised on insertion but neither are visible in Mediatoolbox whereas my 512GB Lacie, 120GB WD (x2) work OK and I've even formatted another drive as FFS.

All of my USB HDDs work fine on my A1-X1000 under Debian Squeeze. However, I have not tried any USB3 drives.

Thanks again Trevor (seem to be thanking you for a lot lately)

I will try MediaToolbox and see if my external drive shows up in the list of devices in that program.

This is a known issue and is being worked on by the AmigaOS4 developers.

Use Mediatoolbox for hdd setup.

X1000, FinalContact. MTB is in sys:, where it should be, but it won't open.

Do you get any error messages?

Have you tried running Snoopy before starting Media ToolBox, to see where it is failing?
