AHI - Unit 0

Maybe it's my fault but since update 3 it seems i can't be able to mantain selected the "Unit 0" from the AHI prefs
In AHI configuration window by default i have the "Music Unit" selected, but if i try to select any other Unit like the "Unit 0" (and then save the preferences as is) AmigaOS will always turn to use the "Music unit" setting so i can't be able to choose any other unit than the default one ..
This make to me some problems with certain output, for example the about window of AmiArcadia does not reproduce any audio as it should, ADoom is completely silent (gfx effect audio is mute) so no audio at all using such AHI config in combination of that 2 specific software
Maybe it's my fault, i miss somethings ?

There is no such thing like a default unit. The cycle gadget is used to select the unit you want to change the setting for. Usually you select one unit after the other and set up your preferences for each. When running the prefs program it always shows the music unit at first.
In order to select a unit to use, you have to set this in the application program which uses AHI.

Ok thanks for explain now it surely clear altrought what i found a bit strange is that previously (with Update 2) i got the proper sound with that 2 specific programs but now on my system all is mute, also for what i remember i didn't change anythings in my AHI settings
Please can you do a simple test for me ?
Download AmiArcadia from:
http://os4depot.net/index.php?function= ... rcadia.lha
Then just open the "about window" and check if you hear the sound (the audio file is: "amigan.8svx" and is stored on the "Sound" directory of the AmiArcadia's archive)

Well, it is muted for me, too. At first.
AmiArcadia is not very friendly, it does not use the device interface of AHI but it blocks the audio hardware completely for its own use so that no other program can play sound while it is active. Not even its own about window.
Fortunately AHI in OS 4 has a workaround for this: if you set the music unit to one of the "Unit 0:" settings, then it does not block and allows AHI unit 0 to be used in parallel to the low-level interface. This fixes AmiArcadia so that it does not block all other sounds and also lets the about window play its speech.

Thanks for the help, all problem is now solved !
Audio AHI usage also should be fixed for the upcoming AmiArcadia 17.42
ADoom sadly still broken, MIDI music never work under OS4 (and this is a well know issue) but for now i can't neither be able to active any other sound from its specific icon tooltype (DSI crash) aniway now i understand why ..

Better use
PrBoom. It has working music and you can disable the OpenGL renderer if you don't like how it looks (personally I don't like how it makes everything blurry). I've used PrBoom on OS4 to play through all three doom games (ultimate doom, doom 2 and final doom) all on ultraviolent difficulty.
There is also
Chocolate Doom but I haven't tried it so I don't know if it's any good.

Yep i know about it altrough MIDI sound have some serious issue when used with that GUS SoundFont availible:
http://os4depot.net/index.php?function= ... ndfont.lha
MIDI musics are not like the original one, i don't know how to explain but it's not the same (like distorted), maybe there is a bug or somethings else, can you can try to look at for fix ?

Of course MIDI Sound and in general all other audio effects is nearly perfect with Chocolate Doom altrough this port is limited to the original video resolution so still not so good expecially on my LCD monitor
Port latest ADoom (that is also not SDL based) should be better in my opinion or atleast try to fix that GUS SoundFonts for PrBoom

I'm not a gamer so don't really know what prboom should sound like, but I downloaded it and it sounds pretty good
on my 440ep using 'FluidR3_GM.sf2' soundfont.
And so does Timidity. Note* it is a big font, 141 MB + 194 MB in an additional drawer.
I ripped it from my Fedora box.
EDIT: ?? OOPS! I should have looked first. prboom uses mp3 sounds.
