Rebranded and given the name "InterWeb". Makes sense right?

It there something special you need to do in order for interweb to play html5 video (youtube)
If you go to youtube.com/html5 you get the message the browser is supported. However, no videos play, you just get a black window with the buffering wheel going until the browser tab is closed. Same in Firefox. (ubuntu 16.04)

YouTube videos in HD with ViewTube and InterWeb

Installation instructions for ubuntu MATE 16.04.6 PowerPC
  1. Install VLC and the VLC browser plugin with the following command:

    Code: Select all

    sudo apt-get install browser-plugin-vlc
  2. Start InterWeb and install the add-on Greasemonkey version 3.31.4
  3. Restart InterWeb
  4. After that, add the ViewTube script to Greasemonkey
  5. Then you have to activate the VLC plugin (YouTube video window: Activate VLC Web)

Hi Christian

Yes that works. However, all videos have a blue tinge / overlay to them.
I have a RadeonHD7800 series installed.
This is a fresh install of the r3 16.04 iso.
I did a fresh install as I ran into issues after doing the apt-get dist-upgrade in that I could no longer login and was left with the ubuntu mate logo and the colour cycling 5 dots et infinitum.

I'll try and attach a screen grab later.

edit

This is with video setting as VLC

Hi JurassicC,

Thanks for testing! Unfortunately hardware 3D acceleration for ViewTube doesn't work with your RadeonHD7800 series. You need a Radeon HD6xxx series or below for hardware acceleration.
But ... I am happy that you was able to install ubuntu MATE 16.04 with the Live DVD! Have a lot of fun with it!

Cheers,
Christian

JurassicC,

Maybe your ViewTube settings are wrong. You need to choose Embed and choose VLC for the player. (See screenshot)

Christian, spot on that was it, I'd missed the "embed" setting. Working now.
Thanks. Good browser. Happy with it. Thanks for all the assistance.

InterWeb has been updated.
