The Linux 5.5 merge window is open now so I released the first alpha today.

New:

• Linux 5.5 with exciting changes -- phoronix.com
• X5000/20 and X5000/40: Default kernel (uImage-5.5) with the CoreNet DMA patch by Mike Rapoport
• X5000/20 and X5000/40: Additional kernel (uImage-5.5-dma) with the latest DMA updates and with the memblock patch by Christoph Hellwig (http://git.infradead.org/users/hch/misc.git/shortlog/refs/heads/fsl-dma-debugging)
• X5000/20 and X5000/40: both kernels: CONFIG_SCSI_SYM53C8XX_DMA_ADDRESSING_MODE=1
• Linux Git log
• Phoronix articles, reviews and news stories covering Linux 5.5

My PCI TV card works without a 3.5G limitation with both X5000 kernels.

Please test both kernels with your Dawicontrol DC 2976 UW SCSI PCI board.

@Skateman
Please test both kernels with the DPAA X5000 onboard ethernet.

BTW, I have bought another Radeon HD6970 (Cayman XT). This time for the X1000. I successfully tested it with ubuntu MATE 16.04.6 LTS PowerPC and with Fienix today and the hardware 3D acceleration works great on both distributions. The Cayman cards are the fastest and last released Radeon cards with support for hardware 3D acceleration on Linux PPC Big Endian. New cards are working but without hardware 3D acceleration.






Please test the kernels.

Fedora got a kernel panic
suse got a kernel panic
ubuntu 17 boot
and ubuntu 17 remix boot

I successfully tested the alpha4 of kernel 5.5 with Fienix PPC32, ubuntu MATE 16.04.6 LTS PPC32, Fedora 27 PPC64, and with openSUSE Tumbleweed 20190722 PPC64 today (see screenshots).
