At the moment I have a Radeon 5450 and a Radeon 9250 PCI installed. It works fine in OS4.1 but I can not get 3D acceleration in any linux distribution except the officiel Ubuntu Remix 12.04 from A-EON.

I have been offered a cheap used Radeon 6870 and I was wondering if anybody have any experience with two PCI-E gfxcards and Linux? I know it runs in OS4.1 (no native 3D) but how does it work in Linux?

Btw, I have a 650 Watt powersupply that should be enough for the 5450 and the 6870, or?

Hi John,

Could you tell me the reason, why you want to have two graphics cards in your A1-X1000. I think the 5450 and the 6870 together need to much power from the power supply. Could you test the 3D acceleration only with the Radeon HD 6870, please?

I like to be able to run two screens at the same time with different programs on each. At the moment I have WB on one screen and Dopus 5.9 at the other. Works very well

I saw Mike Brantley had two PCI-E in his X1000 and was wondering if it made any difference with two PCI-E instead of one PCI-E and one PCI.

You could buy a Radeon HD 6870 with 2x DVI if you like.

Funny enough that is exactly the same card card I have bought. XFX Radeon HD 6870 Black Edition!

Can you use multiple monitors with that in OS4.1? I was under the impression that one monitor per card!

I believe JohnFante is correct, under AmigaOS you cannot use "dual head" mode (as I think it is called) on one card.

But to be sure, try asking in a forum covering AmigaOS and not Linux; I think Hans is more likely to see it there, and he would know for sure.

I think Nbache is right but I will experiment a little over the weekend with different configurations.

I have tried with the Radeon HD6870 and the HD5450. In 4.1 it works fine (no 3D of course) but in Debian it gives me the same problem as with the Radeon PCI. No 3D.

I have also tried just with the Radeon 6870 and even thou I add my user to the video group, install mesa-10.04 and make the nessecary links to mesa librarus I get the same errors as I did here: http://forum.hyperion-entertainment.biz ... =35&t=2546

3D in Debian is just not for me ...

One of the things I have noticed with the Radeon 6870 is that the fan is very loud in 4.1. In Linux it runs slow as it should but in 4.1 it runs as if there were a heavy load in it.

Do you have the A-EON Live Remix DVD? If yes, could you test the 3D support with the live Remix DVD, please?

Did you install the unofficial Mesa according to these instructions? If you want that Mesa works system wide and after rebooting then you have to add the line export LD_LIBRARY_PATH= to the .profile file in your home directory.

Yes it is loud but this is currently the fastest card for the A1-X1000.
