Not really a problem, but merely a question. Knowing that JFXS will be replaced by a brand new file system in AmigaOS 4.2, which of SFS2 and JFXS is actually the FASTEST in AmigaOS 4.1?

I use SFS2 for my SYS as bootable AmigaOS partition, while i currently use JFXS for Work, Diverse, Spill, Games, Media, Backup and Work2 (Backup, Games, Media and Work2 on my USB HDD).

So, which of SFS2 and JFXS is the fastest to use in AmigaOS 4.1 Update 6 with full UDMA?

Neither is faster. They are the same.

I use both SFS2 and JXFS and find them to be approximately equally responsive ni speed...

as for JXFS being replaced?, I'll keep it if I can and start using the new FS as well...

I have actually got a second 500GB drive now due to some luck and set that up as a single partition JXFS prepared RDB disk.

so far I have thrown ~270GB of content onto it without any issues at all.

I would be more interested in stability and not any speed requirements.

AmigaOS can be marketed as a quality system vs the quantity mass produced systems out there as a thought

Thanks to all of you for any help Now i know both SFS2 and JFXS are equal in speed.

As for JFXFS to be replaced by a whole new file system in AmigaOS 4.2. This was confirmed by Solie himself.

See the topic where i was asking for a bootable JFXS. It's here Solie confirmed JFXS will be completely replaced.

I have SFS2 for SYS and JFXS for all other non-bootable partitions

I did not promise a brand new file system for 4.2. The team is working on replacements for the traditional Amiga file systems but when they will be released has not been determined.

And yes, JXFS is faster than SFS at the interface level. JXFS is using the new DOS packet API while SFS is using the old one. JXFS is also less compatible with old software which abuses the DOS packet interface as a result.

@SSolie: Technical differences aside... the "perception" of speed difference just is not there for me at least on this sam440flex,

Otherwise I can report that JXFS is apparently quite stable containing above 250GB on a single partition the full size of a 500GB HDD

Thank you very much for the information, Solie. Now i understand that a lot better. Ok, we can probably still expect to see JXFS supported...

Speaking of that. Perhaps having a bootable JXFS could be a good idea after all? Since it's faster and newer than SFS2 in many ways. Bootable JXFS could also speed up booting time, making it faster to access Workbench, for instance. Again, just a suggestion. I'm not a programmer or a coder. I don't know these things. I just know user stuffs from my own experience.

This was slightly off-topic, but as long as you all know what i mean...

Good to know i don't need to do changes, since i am using SFS2 and JXFS the right way.

I do not want that to happen. I consider it a waste of resources. I would rather the team focus on replacing the existing Amiga file systems (FFS, SFS, JXFS, PFS, etc.) with more modern alternatives.

I realize now why the Amiga file systems have to be completely replaced. They are difficult and different to keep up-to-date than modern, universal file systems today's platforms use.

Looking forward to it. I also agree that none of us want to complicate things. We want to make things easier and better at the same time.

Please can you ensure the modern replacements are bootable?
